These will, and do, spread by seed. They are as drought tolerant as cactus, lol, never watered and no pests.
They do give great cover.... be good as an inside layer in your tree line or windbreak. Small birds will eat the seeds...

for a nice screen that also acts as a snow fence blue spruce , it will take some time and one of the tall grasses might be a solution in the short term.
