Do you fellas think that we will ever see fur prices like they were in the late 70’s early 80’s again? I miss those days.

If you lived thru the fur boom of the late 70s-early 80s then you are older....and will not see another boom like that.

especially if you adjust for inflation. Nuisance trapping is the only way currently to get those prices, or tan what you catch yourself.

I did live through it. I was in high school then and everyone I hung out with was trapping or coon hunting during that time. Now I don’t know anyone around here that traps besides me

I think the best bet for fur prices is if concerns about micro-plastics drive the faux fur crowd back to the real thing. A push to get plastic out of clothing would be a huge boon for fur, however likely or unlikely that would be.

We need some sort of fur craze, promoted by influencers. Something like the raccoon fur coat craze of the 1920s.

[Linked Image]

For me to benefit, the craze needs to be for opossum, coon or coyote fur garments. They are what I can most easily catch a lot of around here.

I don’t know if I want to see another massive fur boom again.. EVERYONE is a trapper then. All the riff raff coming out of the woodwork,, trespassing, stealing fur, traps, no regards for ethics or regulations and give the die hards and trapping overall a black eye.

For the thousands of animals caught and sold for profitable prices I don't recall a handful of problems. The solid majority of my fellow trappers/coon hunters etc I encountered were ethical sportsmen. I'll take another fur boom any day.

The only problems I ever had back then were if I was close to the road or bridges. When I got out and hoofed it back over the hill out of sight no problemo. I still do this today. Get out of sight and backing to the draws and areas where you can’t drive and have fun.
I miss the more recent years when $40 coyotes or $20 coon were good. That was fun. Wasn’t a boom but the prices were up enough it made it fun and there weren’t a tone of guys out and about.
Sure don’t take long though to over stuff the market.
Oh well. Some day.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Avoided the roads. You gotta expect trouble on public land. Still do.

10 dollar coon?

I remember in 1987 my dad told me 10 dollar green average on coon was a money maker. It ain't 1987 anymore.

Where's the geezer to tells us how many foxes it took to buy a new 4wd truck off the dealer lot back in the day.

That and the Volkswagen catfish terrorizing divers at the base of the dam.
