I scored all.this firewood at a auction for the grand sum of $65. It took me 4 trips with my dump trailer to get it all home. I figure its about enough for half the winter. It saved me so much time and its all fully seasoned. Can't hardly beat that.

About a third of it was locust. The rest ran the gambut from rally good to really not. Lots of ash plus some soft maple and some poplar

I used to buy a pulp wood truck of hardwood at our D U banquet. Always the first item on the auction block. Logs were about 5' long I think. No limbs. I think the truck held 3.5 full cords. The banquet was always in late winter so the wood had all summer to dry out. Some years nobody would bid against me.

Same thing happened to me over 20 years ago.ended up buying a big pile of seasoned firewood for 25.00.there was over14 heaping 8ft truck boxes of wood.there were 2 factors i believe that I ended up getting it so cheap.there were 4 auctions going on the same day within a 5 mile radius of this one plus it wasn't split very small as the guy had a outside wood boiler so it was too big for a inside wood stove at the time there were very few outside boilers in my area.

I was leaving an auction when they just got to a huge pile of hand hewed barn beams. I figured I would get it for my buddy who burns wood. Nobody bid after I started it at 2.50. I came back to load it and found out it was all American Chestnut. Needless to say my buddy didnt get it. Made some serious coin selling it.

Imagine if someone else bought that pile for firewood and didn't know what they were looking at. That chestnut could have been all burnt up. Makes me sad just thinking about it.
