Somehow, I think I he folks that feel like slavery wasn't a big deal, or should have been handled differently, or can't say outright that slavery was wrong, would feel differently if I get were the slaves and their children were being auctioned off. My ancestors were slaves to England....Doesn't change a thing in my view about the War between the States.

Only 20% to 25% of CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS owned slaves.
So, what were the other 75% to 80% fighting for? One possibility was that a large population of them were economically dependent of the slave system even if they themselves didn't own them. I think if you research a bit you won't find that to be particularly true. Slave labor depressed wages and job availability for those who weren't among the upper class, much as illegal immigration does today.

I know exactly where your coming from, everyone else does too....I said I had absolutely no interest in owning slaves, and that my family never owned slaves.
That should have told you what you needed to know....Now on the other hand you also need to know what really happened so you can form intelligent questions. Your do realize what "really" happened in history is always debatable right. As far as intellect you are the one not answering questions and taking person shots by trying to play off my questions as stupid. Thats usually an avoidance off the real topic when one is run low of counter points

… my family fought for the CSA and some of them did own slaves. The slaves looked healthy and happy in the pictures….. in much better shape than a lot of the crackheads I see wandering around today lol My family history resembles this remark....^^^^^ I'm in no way promoting slavery (it was/is bad), but the war of northern aggression was just that...northern aggression. And 75% to 80% of the southern population took up arms for that very reason.

Here's the debate. The North stance on why they were fighting was to end slavery. The south"s argument had to be on states individual rights largely because pro slavery is a hard position defend. Similar to the abortion debate. One side is about the right of the unborn child. The pro abortion side use to debate whether the unborn child was a life the had human rights but that position largely has been indefensible for they have since moved to the mother's right of choice.
Could the debate be taken down other rabbit holes as to whether those were the main reasons for the war yes but those are the colors both sides flew.

Never known Paul to have a problem with a fair open friendly debate Asking me if slavery was okay is a premeditated setup, because it suggests the war was about slavery, that's not even a fair debate position from the start because the North was guilty as well. I'm not playing your game....My views on slavery have nothing to do with it. Pay attention to the people in the south that fought with no connection to slavery....You think they really fought to defend something they had nothing to do with?....Nope, they fought because their wives and daughters got assaulted, barns burned, livestock killed or stolen, etc. Sorry to disabuse you of your ideas, these things get ugly. Kind of like we're going to have a nice clean divorce, it seldom happens, and I'm not fighting in someone else's house.

The CSA believed in state's rights so much, that they wrote into their constitution that their states could choose whether to be a free state or a slave state.
Oh, wait, no they didn't. They required all their states to be slave states, explicitly forbidding them to opt out, in their constitution. And the North was so staunchly anti-slavery they kept a few slaves back for themselves to remind everyone how wrong it was, Lol....Preach it Goose!

Only 20% to 25% of CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS owned slaves.
So, what were the other 75% to 80% fighting for? I don't know. They could already marry their first cousin and their sister, both, so that wasn't one of the rates they were fighting for maybe it was better dental care? jk, calm down

We should auction off savell's sons for a t-man fundraiser. I'll start the bidding at $20 for big bud. I've got some chicken poop that needs shoveling. I promise to keep him happy and healthy, at least compared to a crackhead. …. my kids are not from submissive stock …. They’re whip your commie butt and roll around in that chicken crap lol I reduce my opening bid to $15, due to the potential slaves needing discipline upon purchase. The current owner has advised that the slave is not submissive, and the whip and handcuffs I'll need to purchase to induce submissiveness aren't cheap.
