One of claims to fame from Allis Chalmers back in the day was their "traction booster" feature. Claimed you could keep going and plow more ground per day with it. As I am now steward of an Allis D15, which has that on it........and knowing a thing or two about plowing hard and heavy ground.......was curious just exactly how a tractor could "boost" traction. Turns out it's pretty simple. When going gets tough.........tractor lifts the plow out of the ground. Instead of plowing 7" deep, you are now only 3" deep.......but still going at good speed.

Now sure how that helps when what you really wanted was to plow it 7" deep. It tractor wouldn't pull it that fast in 4th gear.......you dropped down to 3rd.......or even 2nd. At some point, tires would spin out........so needed more weight........or duals.........or a smaller plow. But it still went 7" deep.

Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

The old Fords have that also, forget what its called, but it'll raise and lower the plow depending on the pressure it's on....

It would be hard plowing here. We haven't had rain for quite awhile.

Those old WD’s were good machines in certain applications. But the old G and D John Deere’s had a lot of torque and you could plow through anything it seemed. Even on the gumbo land where everything is sticky they’d walk through it
