Sheepdog, There's a chance that the buck has shifted his core area. And the buck the neighbor poached is a different buck.
Ive seen bucks up and leave for weeks and then they return later during late fall/winter.
If he was poached...I hope TX G&F smacks the guy.

I believe he's saying it was poached, you know killed illegally. I think that is the beef with it, not that he thinks it belonged to him. well, he DID refer to it as "my big buck". man, what a RANT! everyone (except the OP, of course) is a "POS", "jackarse", "idiot", "twit", " moron", "big mouth"...

Where can you buy a doe for 80 bucks? 35 pounds of boned out meat sounds like a bargain.

ADC native deer will hang around the high fences. Most of my damage business is predator control for the high fence places in my area. I've seen native bucks fighting with high fence bucks through the fence several times. Usually ends up with some broken tines or one will get hung up in the fence. One place the native deer have a well worn trail along the fence. Looks like a cow trail.

…. I live amongst the government woods … I heard there’s been a group buying up timber company land across the river where sheepdog lives and fencing it … that high fence for yanks to play is more of a south Texas thing though
…. That ol buck hanging around sheepdog was likely native
…. And I think Kieth might be a closet homosexual
.. but I have no proof to back up either
… carry on well now I think Keith had it correct its not in any way shape or form sheepdogs deer. I also found it ironic he is so worked up "over just a deer" as he put it when saying he can't believe people get worked up over just a deer. Yep buddy guess what. You are all worked up over a deer someone else killed. Now I can give the benefit of doubt he is mad it was killed ILLIEGAL. And that part I understand 100% and agree with. I dont think sheep dog is one to get mad or jealous over someone killing a deer he was planing on hunting as so many people seem to do. I believe sheep dog is well past that point in his hunting journey. But now Savell Your behavior and mouthing off coments about Keith show your lack of intelligence. Generally low intellect individuals attempt character insults when they can't come up with any valid points or arguments. Its typical of those on the left but as you show here not limited to them. I having meet Keith in person you would bet you would be taking off your hat and addressing him stammering yes sir while shivering like a small dog with its tail between its legs worried that soft spoken mountain of a Man Yankee would roll your rebel hind end all the way back south to the Gulf of America. I'm sure some southerners had been learned up how to act proper. Maybe you could find some and learn from them ? Not sure sheepdog thought it was his buck, It’s the state of Texas’s deer and should be harvested by any legal means by a sportsman. Not shot in a creek in the middle of the night. I don’t consider myself an antler hunter but if there is a big buck in the area I would like a chance to get it. I hope they nail this guy good.

50 years ago the deer in south TX were no bigger than great danes. If you like antler hunting the pens have increased deer size there.

PS. I said that a few years ago and Mark June liked to choke. Still true though. Went to San Antonio for basic. Was suprized how small they were. I saw some deer in Florida. I thought they were all fawns, Untill a fawn came out. Southern deer are definitely smaller than Indiana deer. Must be the same feeling guys from up north and Canada would have looking at our Indiana deer.

50 years ago the deer in south TX were no bigger than great danes. If you like antler hunting the pens have increased deer size there. I heard the native Texas white tail referred to as dog deer, because of their size, quite a lot. I'm sure that's why so many bucks from Ohio were shipped there. The people who raised deer, that I knew, all have stopped. Ohio had Chronic Wasting Disease show up in Holmes County in a domestic buck and EHD showed up in state too. Mandatory blood testing on all the deer, whenever a deer died, even if the cause was known, made to much work and to much expense, for most small breeders. The supplements fed for maximum antler growth weren't cheap. Keith

I have no personal experience with southern deer but I do know the “corn fed giants” is a relatively good description for some of our bucks in this area. May not have the antlers that everyone ooohs and aahhhs over, but the bodies are generally big and solid. You hit one with a smallish car you risk your life not just your vehicle. I’ve watched plenty of those TV deer hunters and geez how proud they are of their head mounts and big racks. The outdoor stores are stocked to the ceilings with all kinds of gimmicks and stuff for hunters to tip the odds in their favor, or so the marketing on those labels claim. Big money in deer hunting. Seen a few guides around here get slapped hard by wardens for bending the rules to make a client happy and get paid. But here the animals don’t really belong to anyone it’s the state managed herd just the land they may be walking through is generally private so permissions matter. We don’t have many high fence arrangements here and if a nice buck won’t cross the low fence to the side where a guy has permission, and the buck gets killed on that other side of fence, well that’s just hunting. Heard comments from local hunters here too about passing on a buck to let it grow a little. Only to find out a day or two later that same deer is getting ride in another hunters truck to his place. That same deer could also get hit by a vehicle or succumb to some disease too. It’s not like they stay in one spot and get regular vet checkups. It’s life of a deer and stuff happens. Big bucks are neat, they are special. But hey stuff happens and there is always a new crop of deer growing up in future seasons. That’s part of hunting too. Now whether your neighbor is rich or poor, that’s evidently your view of others and not sure what their economic position has anything to do with hunting or this buck you are upset over. And whether they are good people or a “POS” that’s your view too. Hope this all works out properly if any rules were broken. If no rules were broken, well, sometimes deer get killed by someone or something else. Go find another one. Jim

And please, not trying to be preachy or sound uncaring here. Buddy I get your frustration. If anyone understands, it’s trappers. We deal with all kinds of stuff, don’t we? Hope this all works out and you go find another good deer. Jim
