Finally connected with a nice bear. Where I hunt we usually only draw a tag every 6 years now. It has been one of the hardest but also rewarding hunts. I've learned a lot about myself on this journey. Seems like every year I draw a tag the oaks are loaded with acorns. I've had bear hang up and wait until dark. Had a huge boar claim the bait site and never come in before midnight. I've educated myself on bear habitat. Found a few bear trails and just followed them and learned where they travel and why. For me they have been way harder to kill than deer.
Not the huge 400 pounder. Tipped the scale at 200. Lots of fat which I plan on making lard with. This year I was plaged with sows with cubs. Had 1 sow with 3 cubs hitting the site every night. A different sow with 2 cubs coming in midday right after I baited early in the season. All sows stopped coming in Sunday when the temps finally dropped.

Only bear I've killed (while rifle hunting) weighed 205. That was in 2000 and haven’t had a good opportunity to stand hunt a decent area again. Would love to arrow one.

Could hunt with hounds annually here, but never do.
