We know a guy who we have hunted with in the past. On the private land we stopped hunting because he invites anyone and everyone; including people who don’t know or don’t obey the rules. Same guy I complained about taking really crappy shots and wounding and not retrieving MULTIPLE deer each season. He needs a hip replacement as it is, but a couple weeks ago got in a motorcycle accident. (Oddly enough a deer ran out in front of him) broke multiple bones in a foot and will need surgery, has road rash and a broken rib.
He’s already asking us if he goes and sets out tonight (in his surgical boot brace) if he gets a deer will we help him get it out .

Nope.

Would be different if he had a better ethic.
He doesn’t even eat the meat. Just kind of OCD about buying tags and filling them.
I would be bummed out if I couldn’t hunt due to an injury but I also wouldn’t burden someone unnecessarily because I was “sick in the head”

Doesn't take the meat, doesnt respect the deer, just wants to kill stuff. I'm not helping unless he's giving me the deer

Nailed it. And he probably would give it to us but we want to get our own and feel some pride in what we have done. There is zero honor with this individual

Does PA have wanton waste laws? Not that laws seem to matter much to guys like this.

I mean yeah you’re to make every effort to retrieve game. This was something I spoke about before , antler restrictions just ain’t gonna work out if a bunch of guys shoot and don’t retrieve…they’re not gonna tear up their tag and stop hunting they’re just going to try and take another one. Which this person does as long as I’ve known him

I've had guys bring me deer, easiest hunts I've ever had, not too proud to take them, lol, It's just another deer, not the Holy Grail... grin

Wish someone would bring me a steer.... cool laugh

I’ve taken some meat but the way he chases them down after a shot we have had to trail them forever cause he has no patience! Then the meat is ruined with adrenaline and gut blood

He’s a maniac lol

Not going to help period. We have the same issue in our party. Older man sits in his truck and hunts. Bore sights his scope but doesn't actually check the zero. Crippled a deer a couple of years straight. I am usually the tracker, the last time he did that he had a lot of road rash when i got done. He now shoots his rifle before every season.

I used to hunt with a guy that did a LOT of shooting, but NO dragging deer out of the woods. He's look for a few minutes then forget about it.

Yes I have, that is why I try to book hunters that I've vetted, rather than hunters that come through a booking agent.

I've tracked and found deer shot the day before an opener while scouting, if it doesn't drop within sight those guys would just move on....it was the local miscreants.
