Very cool. I never killed a bear (other than nuisance bears for the state). I'm thinking I need to book a hunt next year because I want to try bear meat.

First of all I want to say my wife is a trooper, she decided she wanted to start hunting with me about 3 years ago , and she has been devoted to practicing and getting close shots. We have only been able to hunt Sunday evenings during our archery season this year due to my work schedule. I got her situated in her tree stand around 4 pm yesterday evening, it sits in a white oak flat with thick bedding on each side. At approximately 6:15 she texted me that she had shot a big bear. I tell her to sit tight and make the 1/4 mile hike back to her. She gets out of the stand and tells me she had watched a smaller bear feeding on acorns for around a half hour when it suddenly gets very alert. She suddenly caught movement on her left and the big boar charged in and ran the smaller bear off, the boar then began to calmly feed on acorns. She said she waited until he was quartering away and released her arrow. After she told me the story of the shot and she calmed down a bit, we walked to the arrow. The arrow was blood covered with frothy blood and lots of blood at the impact sight. We took up the blood trail and for 20 to 25 yards there was copious amounts of blood, then it became droplets about every 5 feet. I was starting to get concerned because of the lack of blood, bears are notorious for having fat clog the entry and exit holes. We worked as a team with her staying at the last blood until I found the next blood. We found the bear about 45 to 50 yards from where she shot it underneath a rock ledge in a deadfall. The pic looks like the shot was high and back but when we field dressed the bear the quartering away shot was a perfect double lung hit. I called my cousin who was hunting the other side of our property to help me drag the bear out. It was straight up in a thicket. ( Thank you Chris, I could not have done it without you). After some pics and celebrating we got the bear loaded into the sxs and back to our parking spot and loaded into our hunting rig. I offered to have it mounted for her but she chose to have a European mount and wanted to donate the meat to hunters for the hungry that works with two local churches in our area. Once again I’m very proud of my wife’s grit, determination and patience she has shown to develop her skills as outdoors woman. Eric [Linked Image]

Awesome job and a great story. The shot looks a bit high until you consider the downward angle. It was placed perfectly.

Nice! I have a few that come into my chestnut trees at night and break off limbs to get to the nuts. Never see them during the day.

Spike, we are overrun with bear here, they are a nuisance. She has saw multiple bears out of that stand every time she has hunted it. Fences, tree stands, blinds, cameras they destroy them all. Eric
