Buddy told me today that he heard wild mink may be in demand this season. Anyone else hear anything about this? I would sure like to see that, mink being my personal favorite to target.
It is awful vague though. I would like to see some starting numbers. I can only afford to lose so much money, so assuming the price will be below cost of production, higher price means I can afford to trap more and lose the same amount of $$…
FH press releases are always vague. Gets folks excited but leaves the door open if it doesnt work out.
It is only the middle of October. Fur market on an international scale doesn’t get going until Middle of March, that is 5 months away. Plenty of time for the world to get more screwed up than it already is.
Sold mink while in highschool in the early 80's for 22.00, 22.00 back then was ALOT more than 22 dollars is today. Sad what the fur market has turned into.

You’ve got the wrong mentality…who wants to loose money?

Thanks for the reality check. I was having visions of 1987 when I sold males for $35 (inflation calculator says that is $101 today!), and I was 17 years old. I only caught about 20 on foot around my parents place, but I sure was proud of them all put-up walking in to the fur buyer. Mink and rats are still my favorite, but “who wants to lose money?”
I might still toss a few 1-1/2s in the truck and sling them on some of my beaver jobs this year just for nostalgia and old times’ sake.
I remember fur buyers coming to my house becuase i always had close to hundred mink every year. Last time buyer gave me $50 head count males, $25 head count females. If a female was exceptionally large it went into the male pile.
Those were days Lee! I am lucky to have nuisance beaver work DURING the fur season like loosanarrow mentions...blind set the hot spots while removing problem animals. That makes things interesting and FUN. My only problem is it can be a distraction from doing the job I was tasked with...lol
^^^^^ Okay, maybe it was 11 years ago. The screen shot is of results of the March 3, 2014 sale. If my memory is close to correct, I believe I averaged very close to $50 for male mink, probably about half of that for females. Our marten were close to $200 average. 11 years ago was not all that long ago, there is always a chance that the fur market will be revived. Last year good western bobcats saw record breaking prices.
A couple of years ago fha put out that red fox was in demand. Prices were not very impressive. You have been warned.
You have NEVER posted anything positive about the fur market. Please do share what it would take to be a positive in the fur market, (no matter how slight)

That's fair.

Groenewald did a Youtube interview with the MC Squaller guys from Michigan a few days ago. Anyone interested should watch it. Thay discussed pricing and their opinion on how skunks are being graded.
Also mentioned the fact that the Russian-Ukraine war has greatly disturbed the fur market. Thought you folks would have figured that out by now.
And yes, there are a LOT less ranch mink than a few years sgo.
