I'm with Paul and waggler. Location is what catches otter. Pretty much the same with mink. When I set out to catch mink on purpose, I made 2 sets, not one, at each spot. Sometimes blind sets but ran a lot of open-end type boxes with screen backs. I typically used herring or duck feathers for bait, and usually no lure, but for a couple years I went through the "testing "by putting lure on one box, and nothing on the other. Surprisingly, when I had that setup, the no lure box outfished the lure box by a wide margin. Maybe too many different smells? I don't know, but I quite spending money on mink lure, and as for otter, I did try a bottle of Hawbakers, (I think) years ago, but didn't really know what I was doing, and caught zero otter. I have since caught many more otter than I cared to skin, (of course I skinned them all but wouldn't want to again!) but if I was so inclined, (proper prices would motivate me to again go after them), I wouldn't buy lure. I would focus on the abundant sign they leave, instead.

Just doing what I want now.
