Kenton, from High Creek Wildlife in Westchester County New York, just sent great pics and video of 4 otter he caught at once in the 12x18 Comstock Swim Through beaver/otter trap. Though the traps were designed to make a single catch, because the doors are 18 inches wide, it allows for the occasional multiple catch. Because otter travel in tight knit groups, touching each other as they move, otter can sometimes get caught jamming into a trap together. When setting conibears for otter the same can be accomplished by gang setting 3 or 4 traps in a channel location to take more than one otter. This is the first time we have heard of 4 otters being caught at once, though we have learned of a number of doubles, a couple of triples, with the record belonging to Marcy Wilson of Washington State who caught 5 otters at once in a dry set under a home. It's always nice knowing that there is a chance you will catch more than you expected with equipment that can at actually exceed expectations.
Note: Otter Escape Door in right hand corner. Kenton mentioned that because the otter escape door was closed since the season was open, he was able to catch and hold the otter. During the closed season the door is left open so that nuisance beaver can be taken without catching otter or muskrats.
