So the other day I'm coming home from checking traps, and I see what looks like clothed body lying in the front yard of this nursery. My buddy say's it's problably a Halloween costume. Well, I drop him off and I still have some time, so I go out and set some more traps, and I drive by the same place, and it looks like that body has moved. But I go on and set those traps. I come back the same way, and I just have to stop and look. Sure, enough it is a body of a young woman. I yell at her but get no response so I kick her foot, and she opens her eyes and stars talking but I can't understand what she is saying. So do I call 911 no I go up to nursery buildings and look for some workers, I find this guy, and he tells me he has called 911 and has reported the body. But he tells me that it was an hour ago and still no one has showed up so I go back out to the road and I call 911. And when I get the dispatcher and give her the location, she tells me they have already received a call but haven't had time to send some to that location. This person could be having a heart attack or might have OD, and no one has been sent that location. I sat there for about half an hour and still no one showed up so I said the heck with it and left. So much for calling 911.

Wow Beav thats pretty bad. What kind of area is this place? Does it hsve volunteer FD ND medical? Lots of yhe small town ships here no longer have their one police officer. Depent on sheriff's dept. Most have at least a few fire fighter that would respond to a call like yours as unknown medical. Some in our county are slower or faster than others. Don't think take 30 minutes unless your really in boonies.

So...you just left her?
I sorta see why the 911/first responder ops in your county is like it is.
It wasn't only 911 that failed this lady... Woman obviously in distress of some sort and NOBODY helping, 911, nursey worker, you.......... You could have gotten some help and taken her to the nearest ER if nothing else Stay on the phone with 911 if you are worried about getting accused of anything

I went to work the other day, in the parking lot I heard a lady yell my name, as I turned she was Grey and stumbling clinching her chest and gasping for air. I ran over and grabbed her to hold her up, called 911. Lady was having heart attack, when dispatch answered I told him where I was in parking lot, maybe a 5 min drive for ems. Anyways he said ummm OK, 3 min pause, how old is she, I said mid 50s, she said umm OK. Prob a 3 min pause again, next question whats a good number to get a hold of me at, as I was carrying her to my truck, by then I was ticked because how long it was taking... I said what the heck does it matter, I can literally see the hospital bay from where Im at, at your ems you have my number I called from!!! I said your too slow I have her to my truck ill drive her my self! I hung up, grabbed the lady by the bra stap and back of her pants threw her like a bail of hay and drove her myself. I thought that dispatch time was stupid with guy asking stupid questions and if you cant talk and note at same time you dont need to dispatch

Wow some you guys being pretty harsh on the old Beav. My little sister spent 37 years as 911 dispatcher. People who have never done that job have no idea what it take. As she was getting closer to retirement. They had her training new hires. Which was hard to even find people who could pass the test. She had new people literally quit and walk out before their shift was done. Just couldn't hack it. I see people all time here on Tman saying you get what you pay for or vote for. Those 911 dispatcher are expected to get you help as soon as you ask. Yet my guess is your county treats them like secretary at the front desk with their pay and benefit. Then everyone Monday morning quart backs them. Our dispatcher center has not been able to be fully staffed for years. Can't get people to stay. Actually has an AI machine answer anything non emergency. Same with some town ship PD. Dont want to pay what cost for even one day time officer. So expect sheriff to cover them.
But anyways not Beavs fault if people in that area getting what they pay for. Dispatcher was probably doing her nails and cop in dount shop. Right?
No one else want to say it. I will. Should called ice said had illegal. I dont know Beavs politics. Maybe he just ask him self what would Trump do??

Mac Now it's Trumps fault. Wow. I think the point here is that folks are surprised he and apparently the nursery guy just shrugged off the fact that someone was in distress and left.

I bet if you ask Trump be Biden and liberal fault. Can't blame Beav for their sin. Thats not right. Beav is old enough to be considered DEI hire. Can't expect him to do things way everyone else thinks he should. Some you guys sure expect a lot of others. Mac

Mac that was my thought as well I've met The Beav although it was more than a couple years ago and I mean no disrespect but I wouldn't expect him to be able load a unresponsive person into a vechile by himself. He is a very experienced trapper and is still getting it done, but come on guys, really? He's not 65 anymore.

So, your telling me I should have hauled her into my truck and took her to the ER. That seems to scream Lawsuit. And I did call 911. So later on, today I stopped and talked to that guy at the nursery, and he said that the cops came and hauled her away and I guess from what he said she put up a pretty good fight before they got her in the squad car. And he said the cops have had other run ins with this same person. I can just see me in a drag out fight with this person and get my butt sued.

Should have called the dnr and told them you have been taking care of a few wolves and eagles. I bet they would been there in minutes. That sounds really horrible. Even if she was doped up they don't know that. Pretty crappy.

Hopefully they slipped a tracking collar over her whilst still lying there . . keep an eye on her whereabouts. I'm sure if the Beav would have had a catch pole with him this might have had a different ending. I try to look at things from the viewpoint of what if that was a family member of mine lying there and no one stayed with them until help arrived.

If someone with unknown injuries is breathing on their own and not in a dangerous environment like a fire. I dont think dragging them around and pitching them in trucks to haul off to the hospital is a good idea. If they happen to have some kind of spinal injury could make it worse.

The Beav has no Qualified Immunity, I don't blame him. He did his part, the emergency responders are the ones that let her down IMHO. Move her and hurt her and its a mess. An hour and a half is a ridiculous amount for an emergency situation. If someone with unknown injuries is breathing on their own and not in a dangerous environment like a fire. I dont think dragging them around and pitching them in trucks to haul off to the hospital is a good idea. If they happen to have some kind of spinal injury could make it worse.

She was responsive and told me to in so many words to get lost. If I thought, she was in serious trouble I would have stayed. But since the nursery guy said she had been there for over an hour and had been moving around and told him to take a hike I figured I could leave.
I was working a job in Madison and was taking a break when I saw this guy kind of stumble as he was walking down the sidewalk. So as being a good Samaritan I walked up to the sidewalk and there was a clear blood trail on the sidewalk and as I approached him, I could see his tee shirt was covered in blood. I took hold of him and sat him down. Then he pulled a knife and told me to back off that he was trying to kill himself. This was before cell phones, so I ran into the building and call the law. I went back to stay with him till the law showed up. I was not going go for the knife, but I did stay. When the cop got there, I got the guys attention, and the cop got him pinned down and got the knife. He had lost some blood and was pretty weak, but the cop said the wounds weren't life threating. So, you see I will respond if needed. And I was the only person that stayed with him and at least 10 people walked by and never even slowed down or offered to help.
In both situations I think I did the right thing.

Tough crowd here. I don’t blame you for handling it the way you did Beav.
Given her response when the cops finally did show up, it sounds like you made the right move.

I used to stop and help anyone and everyone. I have helped 3 domestic violence situations where the women were being beaten, helped many stranded individuals. Unfortunately this is a different world we live in today. I respect Beavs decision as one has to protect one's self today from the crazies as well. I won't stop a y longer if I deem the situation a risky one. People today pull guns, knives, etc. for no reason at all.
