Just wanting to get opinions cause I know what I think, but y’all help me out and give me your expert opinions on aging this deer. And NO I don’t know how old it is, just guessing based on the pic.

Terrible angle to age a deer from. But with that said I would go with not real old using only the legs as a gauge. Looks long legged, old bucks don't have that look.

Body does not look mature, rack would be typical of a great 3.5 or good 4.5 in our area.
If he really is young, you have a great program.

I agree with him having the body/general first glance appearance of a 2.5 yr old, but there's something about his rangy-ness that says he is much older....maybe 6.5+.

If that is only his 2nd set of antlers...then that is impressive even for Worth County.

Swamp/Jurassic, that’s the general consensus amongst my buddies. Of course laying actual eyes on him would help. One buddy said he’d pay to have the tooth analyzed so they could be right or be able to rag me for the rest of my life for shooting a young buck with great potential, lol!!

Any past history/pics with him to help with age guess?

Both look good

I think the first one is older than he appears

He has the long and lean look of a youngster (my guess is 3yo) but like Swamp said, something just ain't right about his appearance

If I lived in a pine-oak thicket surrounded by thousands of acres of public hunting ground....I'd be just like you Savell...minus the drinking and bar hopping as I have no interest in that.

Closes public land is 20 & 30 miles away and is only open on certain weekends. The areas are small too....a few hundred acres and a few thousand.

Uncle Swamp…. I slipped in and climbed over a trail coming out of a thicket into a dropping white oak this evening

… no sooner than I got settled in Bud called saying his truck won’t start…. Even with jumper cables

… climb down … walk out and head towards town… he calls back and said he got it started by cleaning corrosion off the terminals lol

…. Wasted climb … I’m just glad the freezer still fairly full…. Between work and this dang family life I might end up empty lol

Savell I ain’t gonna cuss you out. I hunted public land for years, lol. I’m lucky as heck to get to hunt where I do and know it! We’re lucky enough to have the acreage to let bucks go and grow and for the most part, surrounded by folks that feel the same. I wouldn’t call it “selective breeding” we’re just giving them the opportunity to grow to maturity. Heck, as many does as we kill we’ve probably taken out umpteen future records, lol. We really just enjoy the pursuit of a mature buck and sometimes we get lucky. This particular buck just had us a little confused.
Yes, I have 2 spots I feed year round. Right now all they want is corn, the majority of the year it’s peanuts and that was mainly to attract any hogs in the area. Killed 33 pigs last year off that spot in that camera and the surrounding ground around it looks like a burial site from all the hog bones. My other spot is among oaks in a drain…another hog hotspot. Deer take advantage of any feed.

We did see the buck in question Sunday evening as he ran 2 three year olds off a HOT doe. His body looks a little bigger in person and that rack was impressive. The rut is tough for shots even with a rifle unless that doe stops!! My son was the shooter and I was just there as eyes. He did pass a huge old 8 for some reason. I would’ve shot that deer with a bow all day long, but it just didn’t excite him for some reason.
The 9 looks 4.5 to me, but the neighbor swears he’s older based on several years of pics even though it’s the first we’ve seen him. I know they’re after him along with one of our hunters. That joker is close to 1.5 miles away from their cameras right now. If my son shoots him that’s fine. If I can get a climber back there and he gives me the opportunity with a bow I might sling an arrow his way!

Well, Zachary was able to take the 9pt Sunday morning. We’d split up and I was bow hunting out of my climber over a couple of scrapes about 350 yards East and he was in the Tower Stand when the buck came through at 1030. Our rut is STILL going strong and he’d just watched 6 bucks pursuing one doe and happened to look up from his scope and saw a BIG buck crossing the field to his West. He finally got a shot at 170yds when it stopped to work a scrape after fighting one of the other bucks that was in the initial chase.
This buck was way bigger than I expected and of course Zac’s biggest yet.

To tell you how crazy our rut is, Saturday morning we watched 12 (TWELVE) bucks in in single line chasing a doe. I’d never see anything like that in my entire life. None were shooters or anything he wanted to take. Looks like he made the right decision too, lol.
