It doesn't work. Scam Right now I have no checks or credit card, waiting for new ones. Had to get a new bank account and have my automatic deposits re addressed to the new account. The good (?) news is that I did not have any automatic payments, if I did there would have been money taken out of them and lost. . So live and learn.....jk

Several other "veterans" organizations are out there and when you check up on them many have only a small percentage if that that goes to a vet.

We are almost as needy as starving African children.

VFW, American Legion, Viet Nam Vets of America, are safe and honsst, only keep enough donations, and annual dues pay rent, and bills. Personal, manning the phones, and etc., are volunteers. Rest of the money goes back to the veterans, for use. My oldest sister helps VFW post, they do something every month, to raise money for these orgainations, only keeping enough money to pay for the event. THANKS jk, for posting your post, be on the watch for that 1. I can understand, easy one to fall for (REST OF THEM ARE PANHANDLERS, OR SCAMMERS )

Not familiar with Viet Nam Vets, but the other two are safe and honest. I have no problem with belonging and supporting them.

There was this bar that was so rough they checked you for a gun and if you didn't have one, they gave you one.

More great organizations to donate are the Traveling Wall that Heals...an exact replica of the Viet Nam Wall in DC , that is hauled all over the country and set up in different states year after year. A very worthy cause to donate . It changes the lives for the good of everyone who sees it. I have arranged for the value of all my firearms to be donated to the Traveling Wall in case of an accident, or whenever I decide to sell any someday.

Another great one is Tunnel To Towers.

Angela, these two organizations are totally trustworthy.

Just two more options...

Almost every panhandler I see in Des Moines is a homeless vet, according to their signs. I wonder how many actually are?

Yes on the traveling wall,it came to kodiak years back. I had a chance to help out our American legion and it went unbelievable smooth.
Saw many veterans coming out i didn't know were vets, looking for names of friends . Support the local American legion by buying any raffle tickets even thru i never win it's my donation.

Trapdog I offered a sign holder a ride to the VA hospital. LOTS of programs available. He just gave me a dirty look. No idea if he was a vet or not. May just like panhandling and being a dope/alcohol fiend.

It is pretty easy to tell a scam these days. With so many around, I am getting better at it personally. I don't believe anything that has veteran on it, other than official transactions from the VA, is legitimate in any form.

I am a VFW member and a member of the VVA. One can go to the better business bureau and othe places and they can give you info on how much of the funds go to ads, salary, promotion etc. My donations stay with the two I belong to and the local chapters of the Legion.

Hard to believe he didn't want to get free stuff from the VA.
