Living hours away from family. Just left Mom and Dads after helping him get in the bed. I’m thankful that I’m 5 mins away and just a text or phone call away. Thankful that a lifetime of physical labor jobs have prepared me for pulling him up and gently bumping him down stairs. Funny how things seem to fall into place sometimes.

Taking care of aging parents is tough duty. Like you I was close by when they needed it, and I'll never regret it. Hope it goes well for you and your family, HT.

Aging parents has been the topic this holiday here as well. Sorry, but it hasn't been the most thankful this year. Got a 93yo grandmother in law and an 83yo father. One who doesn't know us and the other who's self control is slipping speaks in the only emotion he allows himself to express, anger.

And I'm afraid that I'm my father's son.

glad you are there to help!

my older sister lived literally 200 feet away from Mom. They would very often help each other with doctor appointments, picking up Rx's, bringing home a lunch for the other when they out. We lived an hour and a half away.

curious about something re: inheritance...for those living close by their parents, doing similar "favors" for them...would you feel "cheated" if the eventual inheritance was split evenly among the siblings, rather than being weighted in your favor?

I don't live close, but mine owes me nothing. All that I've asked for are the two burial lots next to my grandfather, g grand, and gg grand. That and lifetime access to hunt if I so choose. As a matter of fact, it's my opinion that all should go to the most responsible grandson, my brother's youngest, and the one that's the closest to his grandfather.
The burial lots would go unused since Mother refused to be buried away from the community I grew up in.

Besides, the land could never pass to me as I only have daughters. Yes, it's that way.

As it stands now it's all in trust with my remaining brother and I as trustees to manage the timber. Assuming both of us outlive Dad, which might not happen.
