My trucks are farm tagged so I legally don't have to wear a seatbelt in Oklahoma.

I buckle it every time I get in the truck.

It's a safety issue--not a governmental control issue.

It's also an IQ test. Anyone not wearing one is in contention for a Darwin Award.

So, farmers in Oklahoma are expendable, not as valuable as everyone else,
Or, farmers are the only ones in Oklahoma capable of making decisions for themselves?

I was an EMT for 17 years. For every person “ saved “ by not wearing a seat belt, there’s dozens who learned how to fly ( out the windshield ). But first you’ll break both your femurs ( buckling under the steering column ), then you’ll crush your rib cage off it, then you take a trip out through the glass.

You can claim you don’t want to be told what to do, or that you don’t like the inconvenience of having to buckle up. But anyone who believes they’re safer without a seat belt / shoulder harness hasn’t seen what I’ve seen.

How about not driving like a fool and getting in a wreck in the first place. I bet 90% of wrecks start because someone did something stupid.

And those fools are the ones who not only injure themselves, they’ll hit you head on. The worst accidents, nothing even close.

We have a seatbelt law here.

we HAD a motorcycle helmet law; but it was repealed.

no matter which side of the issue you're on, that situation doesn't make sense.

In my daughter's case, she was driving to fast into a sharp curve after a rain. Hard lesson for a teenager but she doesn't drive fast anymore. And she does wear her seat belt now.

Ya like driving about 15mph from a stop and getting t bone killing my son. I have been in 4 bad wrecks Two inwas hospitalized once fron2 weeks in icu nrequand a few others not but property damage. Every one was due to someone else.

Seems like you are lying to yourself about how much control you have. Their about the dumbest most irresponsible people you know. Then realize you put your life in there hands every time you get in a car or walk down a sidewalk.

Talk to your County Coroner. Ask him ( or her ) how many folks he declared deceased at a scene would have been alive had they been restrained in the vehicle. After that conversation , if you got half a brain, you’ll wear your seat belt.

Talk to your local EMS. Fireman and ambulance crews. Most of them want to forget how many young people that were DOA, that would have otherwise survived if they hadn’t been ejected 150 feet from a vehicle. I guarantee everyone one of them, with limited experience, can recount an incident.

But go ahead and call seat belts a government intrusion. Some people are clueless.

Whether a person should wear a seatbelt, and whether the government should force you to wear one, are two separate issues. Of course the government shouldn't tell you what to do, but also, smart people wear seatbelts. And, more importantly, smart parents buckle up little children who aren't capable of protecting themselves. To do otherwise would be neglectful. Of course, some accidents just aren't survivable no matter what. But chances of survival with seatbelts, airbags, and other modern safety features are much higher.

I've posted this on here before but... when I was small my mom was in a bad wreck... had to be cut out with the jaws of life. The steering column came back and down and the wheel literally cut into the driver seat... where my mom would have been chopped in two had she been seat-belted in. She hadn't been, and was thrown into the passenger seat, where she walked away without a scratch. The stuck with me, and so mostly I have never worn a seatbelt. Fast forward 30 years, and I rolled my SUV. It rolled 4 or 5 full turns over down an embankment before slamming to a stop at the treeline. As it was rolling I was being thrown around like the guy in the above video and I figured I would die. When the truck came to a stop, it was lying on the driver's side. I was in the backseat area. I found that I was indeed alive, and I could even stand up. I could not however get any of the doors to open. Eventually the paramedics showed up and cut me out. As I got out, I noticed the front driver's seat.... same deal... steering wheel and column smashed into it. The vehicle had airbags but neither side deployed. Had I been seatbelted in, I would almost surely not be here to type this now.

The government should not tell people what to do in the name of their own safety. People should be free to make choices, even if others think they are bad choices, pertaining to their own health and well-being. Whether it be wearing seat belts, getting vaccines, or eating a Triple Whopper with Cheese and a large fry for lunch every day. Doing the latter (or similar) probably kills more people than failing to do the first two combined, but no one's calling for that to be outlawed.

I don't care what adults do with their own bodies, dont want to wear a seat belt then don't wear a seat belt. But Ive personally laid my hands on far too many dead babies from improper or lack of carseat use. Buckle your kids up.
