My daughter is an EMT. Didn't take her to many car accident responses to get very particular about how her kids are buckled into the car. I almost always wear my seat belt. If I don't want to no law will make me, but I truly hate that nagging ding, ding, ding when I don't fasten it.

I'm glad I'm old enough I remember all the kids hopping in the back of who evers dad was driving and heading down the road. Was it dangerous if there was a wreck absolutely But so is sitting in any vehicle.

Anyone ok with motor cycles and has a problem with riding in the back of a truck well.....

About 6 months back I did see a truck with bed full of black kids going down the in ramp to the interstate. I had not seen that in decades. First I was shocked then I smiled ear to ear rembering the fun of it and seeing the same looks on the kids faces. UNTIL I saw one of the kids throw out some trash from a candy wrapper out.

The very first funeral I attended was for a second grade classmate that was thrown from a pickup bed.

My folks put us in the pickup bed to roll around town and even down the interstate. It was fun for the kids but incredibly stupid.

No car seats back then. We never wore seatbelts either. We know better now. Same with, for example, cigarettes.

Wear your dang seatbelts. I couldn't care less if some of you have a death wish but the responsible members of society don't want to pay for your medicaid or social security disability if you live.

I can see having a law to make one have their lights on when driving after dark, because it affects other people. Is there anyway one could argue wearing seat belts protects others? I bet not many Amish buggies have seat belts and maybe not even lights.

Insurance companies like to play the odds. If you are in the minority and get burned up, just your tough luck !

Hate to tell you this it is a government control issue because they mandate it. Freedom involves allowing people to make smart, stupid, or just practical decisions. The safety nazis are some of the worse people when it comes to ignoring peoples' freedom. It really is not the government's role to try and protect people from themselves.

Do you folks that oppose mandatory seat belt wear also fuss about being required to wear fluorescent orange while hunting during firearm season?

You know, that's largely a North American thing ,particularly in the US. You ,generally, don't see that in Europe. I suppose expecting someone to know what they're shooting at is too much to ask.

A few laws here in The USA that "protects" nobody but the 1st person.

I'm not necessarily arguing with you, SW. Just an observation. But, I won't hunt waterfowl on public land during deer gun season . I figure I run the risk of being shot if someone sees movement and no orange, then they conclude it "must be a deer" and blast away.

HEY YALL. The only time I fell Iron working was due to safety equipment. luckily it caught a 2nd time and I only fell about 14 feet before wrapping around the trusses like a yo yo. I worked for small outfits a lot that we never tied off. Went to work building the Toyota plant and discovered I walked faster than their equipment keeps up with. On the other hand that same equipment keep 3 other guys that fell all on their own from hiting the ground 40" below them and that's just the ones i saw putting on the decking. So it was worth me getting a few bruises to keep thos other guys from hiting the ground..

But with that background tie off in a tree only got started to set an example for my kids. Same with bucking up and wearing chaps running a chain saw. They are good changed But I believe should be peoples choice. I mean why put warnings on batteries to not drink the acid!! If they are that dumb let them go and remove themselves from being the socal drain they must be.

I'm not in favor of the government dictating anything. My position is very simple.

1. Anyone not wearing a seatbelt is a moron.

2. Taxpayers shouldn't pay the bills should the moron get seriously injured.

But I feel the same about smokers, fat people, drunks, drug users, etc. Live your life how you want--just don't force me to chip in.

You know the government could just include in the policy " We don't cover injuries caused by not wearing seatbelts" Of course if, they get killed, just think of all the taxpayer money that will be saved.

Yes!! Sometimes wearing blaze absolutely makes sense but at other times it's completely pointless. It too should be personal choice.
