drives can be very effective , but you have to know your crew and they have to know the terrain and where drivers and standers are. I see a lot of guys go bare minimum on legal orange , I can tell you that is a bad idea , you can see 100% orange coverage farther than you can see a vest that gets all wrincked and pulled so it isn't really even making minimum. not sure what they had or didn't have and definitely not blaming , another thing is optics , guys run higher magnification and lose their view. shooting both eyes open , not getting target focus , staying only in your zone it all plays a role and you have to be able to pass the shots that are risky.
we lined back up every clearing or logging road so that we didn't have people out in-front , it was also hard working with other families they went much to fast.
sounds like they were firing out of their zones
they can be done safe , but so can climbing into a tree stand or handling your own gun those are the biggest killers in WI even though drives happen.
it takes a level of discipline

Anytime you have likely more than a million people that hunt every year, there will be accidents. With all the folks who hunt it seems safer than driving to work.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

you ain't seen nothing till you seen a cop directing traffic into a county forest at 05:00 on opening morning just shy of 2 hours till it's light, could not go 75 yards without seeing more orange.
first light was 20 minutes of steady gun fire maybe it was only 10

Dumbest way to hunt ever. No nothing dangerous about walking toward someone with a gun waiting on a deer coming from the same direction the guy was walking. Reason it’s outlawed in some states. Some people never learn its not something I would want to do with but few choice people. It has worked for my boys and I in limited situation. AND I feel comfortable completely safe infact, walking tword my boys even when they were 11 and 12.. I don't believe i would do so with anyone else except my kids and one of my cousin's. They won't take shots that will kill me.

Some people never learn Doesn’t sound like, in this case, he was shot by one of the guys on stand. Sounds like a deer broke through the drivers and a couple drivers shot at it, hitting a driver.

We do a managed hunt every year on a property and it’s people who are trained, screened and qualify. This year, we killed 28 deer in two days. This hunt has happened every year for the last 20 years or so. Has never been an accident or anything of the sort. It’s done in a safe manner and everyone has a job and knows what they are doing.
It’s deer hunting, not deer passing.
If I have a tag, I’m ready to drag.

I think this was an Amish crew. Deer drives are very popular with them. Some of those fellas toting 760s and 7600s…you’d think they were shooting semi autos. I believe it was an Amish person.

Guy in Ky about to face prison time because his kid shot someone and he wasn’t around. Might be different laws where you live

Did family elk then deer drives every year when I was growing up. If it makes you nervous don't do it.
