Anyway, what do you folks figure is the best? Also , if don't mind saying, why is it the best? I'm heading to bed now, and would sure like to read some opinions, and maybe a good argument or two when I wake up.

Have a good day folks.

Sam, you work with a genius and an idiot. Sadly, you model 12 comment puts you further down the brain chain.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I mean I have reasons at least , even fairly well reasoned ones.

I even grew up in a Remington household I mean till I was 11 dad had one gun it was a Remington 870 , then dad bought a second gun a 10/22 , then an 1100lt 20ga for me to hunt with.
I got a Rem 742 and 1100 12ga when I was 14 and had a job so Remington's were still the primary thing in the cabinet

despite there being a bunch of Remington's there are more Mossberg's here now.

I have two 870's. One i bought in1967 with muskrat money when in high school. My son and I shot our first bucks , waterfowl, small game, and birds with it. Had to refinish the wood on stock and forearm. It will stay in the family.
Has only a 2-3/4 inch chamber and it sole purpose now is home defense. The last two bucks i killed i brought it out of retirement and it performed flawlessly. The other 870 i own is a newer model with camo composite stock and is my main turkey thumper.
My vote goes to to the Rem. 870

even a lot of ways to base it

I assumed since 870 500 and M12 were the 3 the OP mentioned we were talking general purpose American made pump guns.

but I can't even pretend to understand the over under and sxs stuff , there are so many that are just out of my wheel house.

ditto on any of the Italian semi autos

or the new specialty waterfowl guns

if you are following Sigpro's thread about being coon bit and the ER, the one loaded with buck shot in your hand when the coon breaks out of the trap

why buck , because I never had one get up when shot with buck , but I have had them roll and come back up ready to fight with 22s and other shot.

Like greencountypete said...the Wingmaster is different(better) from what was produced recently by Remington

Finally someone posted a decent maker of shotguns 😁 eventhough it’s a trap gun

But I’ll have to stick to Perazzi myself

My daughter shoots a Perazzi mx 8

Just what kind of pattern would have in that situation not much I’d think.

My old mossburg still works. Got grandsds 80 some year old A5. Don't think it ever broke. Safety takes some getting used to. Its like the safety on a garand. Had an 870 years ago. Never could hit with it. Guess it didn't fit me? Sold or traded it I can't remember. Killed a lot of stuff with my break open single shot H and R. It never broke. I guess I aint picky about shotguns.

I prefer the Benelli shotguns, very rugged semi auto, weatherby has some decent ones also.

If I was trying to explain this to someone from the Middle East I would say a shotgun equivalent of an Ak-47 which would equal a Remington 870…in terms of dependability obviously

Own 5 Mossburgs and they have put alot of game in the freezer.so what they rattle a little bit they still rate pretty high in the best shotguns list.

I don't know about best, but I think a single shot 12 gauge, in most any brand, is probably the most versatile gun there is.

Can’t go wrong with a model 12, 870, 1100, mossberg 500, or Ithaca 37. Not a classic but I’m partial to my Beretta 694 for reliability over 28000 documented rounds through it and not a hick up only routine cleaning and lube.

I guess it depends on the choke and the distance I run a full just about all the time , not big , but you get any where close to the middle and it is not getting back up

he didn't really specify the distance it started charging him from he said he went back to the truck to grab something

even if you go almost muzzle contact as it is headed for that leg , blood splatter is better than it breaking your skin

For a classic I carry a Winchester model 50 12 gauge when it comes to turkey hunting. I also have a 20 gauge, sweet little gun.

Afraid I’m a model 12 lover I have several but really I’m not all that particular as long as it fits and handles right, while I have a fair number of shotguns I really don’t use them all that much, I’m more a rifle shooter
