I can see that the diagnosis is herniated discs I just don’t know what the rest means.

My mom has something called degenerative disc disease. They tell her there's nothing they can do for her, and she's to the point she will soon be wheelchair bound. NOT saying that's what your diagnosis is, just what I thought of when I read it.

sounds like everything is fine (for our age). Disc degeneration/protrusion and mild central canal stenosis are not scary things as such.
My lower back MRI descriptions are almost exactly the same.
Keep moving, with toned muscles these things will bother you much less if at all.

Backs are no joke. I have some bulging disc and seems like every few years I do something that gets then to let me know. DROP ME in my tracks involuntary holler out in pain bad. Down for 3 to 5 days and it typically eases up. Always has some dull discomfort and such.

Hopefully the doc can get you lined out. Mine is was told its something im going to have to live with not tbad enough to do anything about and hopefully never is.

Walk. Then walk dome more. Epidural injection will help. Don’t listen to nay sayers about them. You will feel like a teenager after getting them

DJD I’ve seen in dogs especially German shephards they cross their back feet and have a swaying gait. I can see how that would be devastating for a person. Sorry for your moms diagnosis Ang and also for Buzzard!!

Facets (joints) are normal “for age”. Means some degeneration, but no more than expected.
Stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal, can be caused by normal aging, bone spurs, arthritis among others.
You already know about the degenerated/herniated/bulging discs.

Guessing you have lower back pain bad enough to have caused visits to Dr and scans.
Dr will let you know if there are non-surgerical options.
You may need back surgery (usually fusion) in the future. L4-L5-S1 are the two joints that take most of the stress in the back, and are the two usual suspects that cause back/leg pains associated with the wear and tears of an active/physical life.

core exercises

if you still have bladder control , start slow as you can walking , stretching and more core strength exercise

I am 27 years in on 4 lumbar ruptures , left foot tibialis lift is a little weaker and some numbness below the knee

the disks will heal or harden or whatever it is they do but if it isn't pushing on very important stuff no need to go rooting around in there

maybe ask the Doc about a little traction to get the weight off the disks initially.

then every day work on the strength that is what keeps your back in better shape , I had problems ever late winter when my activity was bounce down frozen roads in a 1 ton van , sit at work , go home , heat sleep , and repeat
then I stood for 17 years and had leg issues in the last couple years of it circulation as a result of a clot and probably being diabetic , now it is a don't stand too long and work out as much as I can to keep the back and core strong

I just had a major overhaul on my lower back, but have degenerative disc disease, bulged discs, etc on upstream to the base of my skull still. It'll get fixed when it becomes a must do.

Gonna have to take it easy on and off the line. Pay attention to where you and your feet are and where the next step is going to be. DON'T BE JUMPING OFF OF STUFF is a big thing.

"degenerative disc disease" is basically wear and tear and middle age people commonly see that diagnosis

I am no doctor but I work with a bunch and I suspect a steroid epidural at either L4/5 or L5/S1 is in your future and should help the inflammation caused by the disc protrusions.

We do them in a series of 3 (as needed)

I worked in the building materials trade just short of 40 yrs. Had back problems off and on. Degenerative disc disease is a commonly used term and effects most all adults as we age. Dr's, chiropractors and other experts put in their two cents worth over the years. The best thing I did when a flareup occurred was walk a mile or two than ice it.
My wife has 2steel rods and a bunch of screws in her spine keeping it stabilized for past 30yrs. Her condition is something a little more serious than any problems I dealt with. From what I see on that report I wouldn't be to concerned but than again I'm just a retired trapper. Good luck and keep active.

BTLowery it goes to my hips often and burns.swiveling motions like sweeping or mopping wreaks havoc on me. Tossing from one side to the other at night takes a minimum of 2-3 minutes. It feels like it’s in my core and there’s a big ships knot pulling everything together tighter and tighter

Try the epidural it works wonders for me smash I’ve got Dr appointment Monday morning hope they give me another one so I can function for awhile

I’ve had lower back pain for awhile… couple years ago I went numb from waste down… went to the cowboy chiropractor in town … he popped my hips and everything went away

… got the pain creeping back in now … may go again

Ice is your friend, I do yoga for stretching, traction is great you only go till you feel a little pressure relief then stay in that position it’ll take awhile but helps, I hang from a chain host by putting a chain under my shoulders and gently lift, you’ll have good days and bad just remember to laugh especially on the bad days because it will consume your life and drive you into depression, I know.

A lot of back pain is from a weak core/hips/back. Get a kettlebell and learn the 2 hand swing. Coupled with planks.
