for targets I like CCI standard velocity 40gr

for general it needs shot CCI mini mag 36gr hp

for I want less noise game targets CCI sub-sonic lead hollow points 40gr

CCI is as good as it gets priming wise , the thing most 22lr ammo is not sealed , so storage MATTERS

as an example I had a case of Federal auto match they are 3250 round cases not 5K round cases , any way shot a little over half in the spring season and had maybe 1-3 questionable rounds for 325 pack , these were loose pack in cardboard boxes bulk ammo.

this was back in 20teens durring the 22lr shortages , it was the ammo I could get at the time my guess they were turning it out fast as the could bulk boxing it by weight and calling it good

that ammo sat in the tool box in the back of my van till the next spring , hot cold humid but never wet always in a box in a tool box in the the back of the van.

that next year we went from 1-3 rounds that did not fire the first drop of the hammer some would fire if turned and tried again , to not being able to get through 3 10 round magazines without a failure.

so from around 0.33 to 1 % to between 3% to 6% failure , the year after there was a little bit left and it was almost painful to use up at around 10% failure rate.

so storage makes a huge difference

since then climate controlled storage for all 22lr ammo

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My suppressed 10/22 fires anything I put in it however the CCI Quiets don't cycle the bolt. Matters not if Remington, federal, Winchester, even some that had 1.50 price tag on the box of 50

I do not care for Federal, at least the .22. For both of my 20 gauges Federal has always worked great. Yes their .22 shells often fire in my single shots but sometimes won't fire even with a decent dent especially in semi autos

Can't say for 22lr sold lately.

I haven't bought any in probably 5+ yrs.

Stocked up a long time ago and just replenish when I see a deal.

I'm still shooting boxes with price tags in the cents them bought at Holiday gas stations and KMarts. I think the box in my trap kit is Mohawks . grin So 70s-80s?

Never noticed any issue with a specific brand or whatever. There's always a dud once every 500 or so.

My 10/22 has never failed to fire a cartridge. As for accuracy, at 50 yds I can put an entire 10- round mag into a 1/2 inch group. Mine has a Timney trigger group.

At my VFW's meat shoots I do the loading. Many times the shell won't fire, and when I rotate it a few degrees and try again, it will fire. I think sometimes it's just the primer didn't spin into the full rim like it should.
