Tomorrow is the start of one last push. My son Remington (AKA Rem-Dawg) and I will be setting out two lines tomorrow. One is for him to check after work and the other will be for me to check. We are trying to catch a couple more cats before the season is over!!!! I’m not sure how long we will be able to trap but we are going to go as long as we can. I have decided to document it for a while. Here are a couple of pics from 2024-2025 “last push”. It was actually a trip we took in March.

BT that trip was actually on the Mexico border last year. We’ve made about 5 trips down there. Always super fun.

So we got 30 traps out today. All of them were on pretty dang good sign. Lots of coyote and fox tracks. We did end up getting set up on what I feel like is three different tracks. Remington will check these 30 and with any luck I will get another 24 out next week for me to check. I took some pics today but I have to figure out how to make the “file smaller” so they will up load.

No catches yet but we are getting some more traps out. Only a matter of time. Here is a couple of dirt holes that were put in at an intersection today.

Still no catches yet but we are set on some dang good sign. Getting some more sets out and of course some deer remakes.

Today the “Last Push” produced its first fruit. One large adult male coyote. Was able to find some more cat sign and plan on getting traps out in this new canyon tomorrow!!!!!

That’s funny…..

Well much like the rest of the world last nights weather was not great. We were hoping for snow and we would sweep traps off today. Instead we got just rain….so this morning Remington and I went and pulled up every trap and got them in wax dirt so that we would have working sets. Tonight’s low will be around 7 degrees. I also am putting together more drags so we can keep expanding!!!!

Well the last push is proving more difficult than expected. So what else can you do but find more sign and set more traps!!!!

Tonight the “last push” moved us into the water. Got a call for a beaver job so we went and set that up. Great beaver sign along with some pretty dang good cat and coon sign. I put in some cat sets and some me DP coon sets to guard them. I also set one blind set on the beaver dam. Should start hooking up with some critters soon!!!!!!

Great way to spend a couple days. I am enjoying the pictures.

Got some new sets in today as well as picking up a little fur on the water. Trying out some more plastic boxes for cats and looking forward to what tomorrow has to bring!!!!!

Started the day off taking the boys goose hunting and then off to check traps!!!!! Just a coon and a skunk at the river. Caught the skunk at the dam cross over blind set. On the other line we caught just one red fox and one gray fox. The coyotes had found the red fox before we got there and killed it so that wasn’t awesome. Still no cat but we are hopeful.

Thanks wild I appreciate it. I’m not gonna lie. This thing is turning into a grind though. Tonight we missed three cats on our checks and had several coyotes just blow right by sets and never even stopped. At the river I had a Beaver miss and all we caught us two coons. Some days on the trap lines are high, and some days are lows. Today for sure was one of those lows.

That's definitely how it goes. Highs and lows. But that's what keeps it interesting.

Just two more coons today. The coon we caught on the blind set on the dam already had one foot missing.This weekend we are going to pull and shuffle some sets around on the cat line.

Got some new sets out today on great sign. Hoping for big things!!!!

Today’s check brings more coon and one of the saddest coyotes I’ve ever caught. We don’t get much mange in our area so it was a shock to see such a bad case of it.

Today the line produced a gray fox. It was on my son’s side of the line. Between the two of us we have about 16 traps out and already a coyote and gray fox. We are optimistic!!!!

It rained over half the day yesterday and all night last night. Was not expecting much but caught another coon and one more Beaver on top of that I’m not feeling so hot. So I did not get any new sets in today.

The line produces another beaver and a coyote. Still only have 12-15 traps out. Weather has been crazy. Need to get more out but where to find the time? LOL

Yeah not too bad. Last night was a bunch more rain/snow so today was rebedding all the traps in dry stuff.

Yesterday was a cool day to check. There was just the right amount of snow to really read tracks good. Learning a lot about how coyotes hunt in my area. Even found a couple of spots where coyotes had caught and killed rabbits. Pretty cool stuff. Got a couple new sets out in some areas I never really thought about setting. Did not see any cat tracks…still waiting for them to come back through

I love when it snows for that reason. Stories are told in the snow.

Another gray fox today. Also, my son and I got some of our fur shipped out for sale. Excited to see the results. Wish I could’ve had it all ready, but was thankful to be able to get some of it out anyways.

Well everyone this is the last post on the “Last Push”. Today I went to check and found that someone had figured out I had traps set. Most of the traps you can tell they looked for but could not find. But they did end up following my foot prints and finding a couple. They stole one trap and a drag and they tried to steal another trap but it was anchored down and they couldn’t get it pulled up. I was forced to pull everything. This is a product of trapping public land. The Bible tells us that “ human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” James 1:20
So I choose not to be angry. I have had dozens and dozens of traps stolen over the years. It is unfortunate but it is the way it is. Next year I will go at it again and love it just as much as I always do. This was a fun thread to keep going and I appreciate everyone following along.
