He was sort of an "in your face" sort of guy guy and made some adversaries. Anyway, he's been gone from tman a couple years now.

Anyway, I still talk to him on a regular basis. The tempo got changed within the last 10 days or so and he finally contacted me. He had a bad fire but he and his dog made it out ok.

Most tman people who interacted with M probably didn't know that he had been living in a camper for a good amount of time and had multiple vehicles in his temporary spots. He ended up having a fire get started in the camper and basically nearly died getting back in to it to pull his dog out. He's staying in a friend's "fixer up house" in a nearby city so has a place to stay and even though he lost his trucks, he picked up another old Chevy with some "metal".

M is not a "spring chicken" and I'm going to send him some "metal" pieces, along with some household stuff. If you want to reach out and talk to M, he can be reached at martingoodwin56@gmail.com. He told me that I could show his e-mail.

I should say he bought the old Chevy with some "recovered metal" found in the burn area. Good thing that stuff doesn't melt at typical house fire temps...

I like Mr M. He got the shaft for being honest.

As expected, the camper burned quick. An electrical short towards the back caused his external generator to cut out before he smelled smoke or saw flames. He was outside for about 2 minutes checking on it when he saw flames from the back end. He wanted to save his dog but when he opened the main door of the camper and stepped inside, the smoke and heat knocked him down. He crawled back to the bed area where he figured the dog would be hiding underneath, which the dog was, and grabbed the dog's harness (it typically wears a harness), and M was able to back crawl his way out of the mess.

I told him, and he agrees, that if he would have been dozing or sleeping, he and the dog would be dead. Sometime minutes and seconds count.

That would be terrible to lose virtually everything your own. Kudos to Marty for saving his dog. I hope he can recover.

Any idea of the size clothes he wears I was looking for something last month and realized how much stuff I have in totes that I never wear. The same with shoes I’ve never worn. I’ll send him an email and see what I can find out.

I just as soon send it directly to him personally if he has a permanent addess to send too. If he is living off grid he may not or just have a post office box.

I just had a contact with Marty. We are getting together some things he said he can use and will try to get them packed and shipped in a day or so.

He wears size XL shirts/gloves and size 34/36 medium length pants, I assume that his briefs would be medium size? Socks shoe sizes, boots size 11 Medium.

Got our care packages together by late yesterday for Marty and all boxed up. Printed shipping labels this morning and heading to drop them off at UPS.

We have developed a type of relief fund over the years to help chip in to friends and folks that we feel can use some help under these types of tragedies.

We use PIrate Ship daily for shipping. Our average box we shipped today was 18"x12"x10" avg cost for them was $15.95. The weight avg per box was 13# 7oz to ship them to that address.

I wondered why I hadn’t heard from Marty, he usually calls me several times a week! He got his little dog from me about four years ago, and I’ve been in touch with him ever since. He is a pretty good sized fella, around 6’2” and prolly weighs a bit over two hundred, waist prolly 34-36, I hate that this has happened to him, and will prolly just run what I can dig up, down to him. My clothes won’t fit him, so will get him some money to run on!

So those 34/30 511 pants probably won’t fit him it sounds like I’ll keep digging.

I doubt my 34x32 pants will fit him if he's 6'2. I sent him a donation through paypal. I'll look and see what I've got in the totes downstairs. I wear mostly large shirts and coats though.

I'm glad this was posted and has stayed up. No matter if you had different opinions with a person here when they suffer a loss like this or go through a rough patch it's very admirable that people come together to try and help. I as I'm sure most would appreciate a hand up if it was us. I know I'm getting softer as I get older but I try to look at a situation like this put myself in their shoes. I'm fortunate that I'm not in his situation so there's a lot to be thankful for and it's easy to forget that. I know I have in the past.

Spent the day helping Marty yesterday. What a mess! Lost everything, and still sifting through it looking for anything he can salvage. He needs so much, it’s just shocking. You cant appreciate what has happened, without seeing it. I got home, and everything I had on was black!

Marty ask me to relay a huge THANK YOU to the t-man family for the kindness you have all shown to him. I echo that as well!

That area is supposed to get sub-zero temperatures and significant snow the next three days also.

Last I knew Marty was in a friend's unoccupied house in town. His friend doesn't live there so had the temps turned down fairly low but perhaps Marty has it turned up some now. Lee can probably update the situation but I don't think Marty is out in the cold.

Sounds like he’s good on personal hygiene items I had a box of stuff to send but he said he was good on them.

Marty just received 6 goodwill boxes of items yesterday from many of you. I have been emailing with him brief msgs over the last few days.

Like stated he is staying in an unoccupied house at the moment with his dog. He is so appreciative and wanted me to say Howdy to all of you and to thank all who have contributed to help him in his situation.

He probably thought it was like Christmas last evening when he went to opening all his boxes of things. I would like to have been there to see his reaction and his dog Paddy Boy. We sent him a dog bed and a stuffed (squeeky) full size rabbit dog torture toy, and several bags of duck, ckn and bone marrow treats along with some food/water dishes for his little buddy.

I really think with all of our collective support from donations and the mailed items he is feeling uplifted, and seeing a bright spot in his life and days, even under these tragic circumstances. I also believe his dog has helped him greatly to deal with his situation as well.

I want to say how proud I am of all of you that have made such a significant impact on someones life as you all have. Our Tman folks always seem to step up when needed and asked to do so.

We are working to get a place for Marty to live in the near future as he cannot live where he is currently long term. It is fortunante he has a friend that stepped up to give him a place to stay for the short term.

Thank you all for lending a hand and sacrificing for someone that is truly in need.

Marty has been reinstated by Paul so he can post on here again. I informed him of this last night, it was nice that Paul’s giving him a second chance let’s all try to get along here.

Your correct, Roger. He is staying in Marks house, but he didn’t give me any info on the house. Mark lives in Topeka, and has been helping everyday, going though the “remains”! At least up till yesterday, when the storm set in. We got about 7-8 inches of snow, and I think they were predicting a little more down Marty’s way.

Does Marty own the land where his camper was at? I know he has a lot to think about but what's he looking for for a home, another camper, mobile home or other? This is just something I've been wondering about.

I want to thank boss Dobbins for making it possible to come back on here and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and kindness.
It was a very traumatic experience but Paddy boy and I got out alive. But for the grace of God we would not have been so lucky 🙏. 60 seconds more and I would not have been able to get to Paddy who was hiding under the bed. The power went out and I went outside to check the generator at the back of the camper. I had the inside door to the back closed and the electric fire started in the outlet the heater was plugged into back there. It was burning before I went out to check the generator but I was not aware of that. Anyway I walked to the back of the camper and looked at the generator, then looked up at the camper and the rear of the camper was in flames. Opened the rear door and the fire got air and exploded. Closed that door and walked in the front door and got knocked to my knees by the smoke and heat. Managed to grab a flashlight and crawled to find Paddy. Got him out and secured. Tried to get back in the camper for the vehicle keys but the heat was to much. Then the 1# propane bottles started blowing. Got Paddy and we moved away. Watched the camper burn and my 3 trucks catch and start burning 🔥. No phone to call help. After a bit someone who heard the explosions called it in but everything was a total loss by the time fire department arrived. It was just crazy.

Took me a long time to realize how much I actually lost in my fire to this day there’s things I look for that were in there. It’s all replaceable even though that sucks but it is what it is a guy just carries on there’s a good feeling about a fresh start at least it was for me.

If you find that you’re in need of things maybe post a list so folks can see what they have extra this is a reason I don’t throw good stuff out at least that’s what I tell the wife.

Did you lose all your traps and such equipment too Marty? Fishing poles and tackle?

No traps lost. Some fishing gear. All my packs and outdoor/camping gear burned. Optics and 7 firearms. Most of my m-18 tools and batteries.
