Exhilarating! That really the only way to adequately describe finding a hole in a cold, mountain fed river, that’s one inch deeper than your waders are tall. Exhilarating!!!

Don't worry, your plums should drop again sometime in June.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Now to pull out what lives there!! It wasn’t a critter hole. I was carrying a bag of rocks out to water deep enough to drown a beaver. Rocky bottom and shallow. I had to use a 25 foot drowning cable. Since I can’t throw a 50 pound bag of rocks that far, I walk the bag out as far as my boots allow and toss it a little ways further. Then tighten up the cable to the set. Tons of beaver sign but the river is down with the cooler weather. I was just about to launch the bag when I found a small hole between the rocks that was just deep enough to let in a few hundred gallons on icy, snow pack chilled river water. I did find a few channels for 330s and got out a 330 float. Next check I’ll add some more along the river in likely spots. I’d rather use my boat but with my wife’s dementia, she has to go everywhere with me. Not safe to leave her at home alone. And her in a boat isn’t going to happen. So we trap out of the truck, accessing what we can. She is comfortable in the truck, has the dog for company and some snacks and magazines. It’s better than sitting around the house all day and she likes to see the country. It’s new every time for her.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Exhilarating! wasn't your first choice of words when it happened. Yeah I was gonna call BS on that one too.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Exhilarating! wasn't your first choice of words when it happened. Exhilarating wasn’t the word I used at the moment but it was the sensation. The chosen word may have been construed as a foreign language to a bystander. I’m ashamed to say it most likely wasn’t a good testimony for someone who professes to be a Christian.

Marty you are in a tuff spot, with your wife, that is great that you can still take her, with you, and very good for her to get outside, God bless the both of you, keep us posted on your next trap check, maybe some pic, Thank you sir. Got one scrawny little beaver yesterday but added some more beaver floats. I need to run out today and pick up a few of the traps that are in a shallow backwater. Lots of sign but the water is dropping and they’re going to be high and dry. May have to just use floats in the deeper shoreline areas. The NOAA forecast is for continued low or dropping levels. I have to take each day as it comes with my wife. Some days are good and others more challenging. The aphasia is the worst part of it. Every conversation is a guessing game. And most of her speech is made up word that make sense to her. And there is no cure short of divine intervention. Which I pray for every day.

No water over the top of my waders today but I did pick up this guy. My first Idaho otter. There’s a 20 otter quota for our region. Mine was number 19. One more snd they’ll close the season. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Fur/i-DdZTvvR/1/NbstZ7jkkQgjpqgvnr9SQjwFpjVSJmxjbdhWFf6pV/L/IMG_2230-L.jpg)
