Good deal. Good price for your mink. Were your rats from the fall?

Those look like some decent prices. I know at least one guy last Saturday went to GFW after showing up at the Winnipeg FHA depot and finding it locked up. I turned around and went back yesterday, I think Mary Schellenberg went on her own accord to help the trappers out. Even though their hours are weekdays, I assumed the doors would be open the day before drop off deadline.

Today it seems a rat ia a rat. June or january dont seem to matter, just measure it up. I guess id be ok with it if the nose price was $12. $3 for good rats is a slap in the face and we are submitting to this reality. Simply my opinion.

We're at the point of being happy if they sell, pretty sad.

A lot of guys aren't trapping. Only the guys trapping rats are submitting and getting slapped.

True. I justified my trapping activity though my fifties and cheap fur as sharpening my skills. I wanted to be better. It is impressive what experimentation and experience will provide. I discovered the more you know the more you learn. Ironically cheap fur allowed me to take a step back and achieve that goal. Priceless. Not trapping wasn’t an option for me and fellas like me. The money only creates frustration. Now over 60 Im glad I did and count the blessing to be able to.

This frustration isn’t intented toward individuals. Rather the decay of the system. I appreciate the knowledge, effort and skills required.

Why are trappers targeting only one species? Are there no mink where their rats are?
Multi species trappers are ahead of the curve in stead of lagging/reacting……lol

Weird thing is nImzy there are other skills to be learned when prices are low. I became aware that above my marten sets a fungus grew that was more valuable than the marten that wouldn't sell thru covid. I learned to harvest this fungus and process it and market it and made more money doing it than many of the years marten trapping. It was a new and unique experience. Truthfully, these days like a lot of things I did a lot of over the years, I find trapping kind of boring and repetitive.

Dirt you must be done learning. 😃
I like the concept of living off the land. I play the game with the MAN. 100x profit is less satisfying.

Mink prices are encouraging. Makes checking the bottom edge sets twice a week a bit more exciting. And that from Groenewald. Hmmmm . . .

'Rats were moving good prior to the big freeze. This from two colony traps side by side.

I learned a whole new business. Last summer I learned how to form and create two in floor heated Concrete slabs.

BTW Mostly I learned I didn't want to Concrete work for living in my 60's. smile

Dirt I stand corrected. I bet the trapping aided you to keep your eyes open and take advantage of opportunities. Good story!
