Question guys...I have fur trapped for 50 years, but just started doing nuisance work mid-2023. Through the years of fur trapping, it just becomes less productive when the temp drops. Yes, you can catch fox and coyote when it's 10 below, and if you want to chop ice, you can still catch beaver and muskrat, but coon are a different story. So for the guys in the colder climates, when you get those late December and January calls at 0-10 degrees, do you go forward with the job knowing there's a good chance it might not be productive, or do you tell them to wait?

one way doors are your friend in those cases as you dont need to check everyday most raccoons will not move in those cold temps but will once its warm enough for them but telling the customers up front that it may take longer no matter your method of removal is always the best course of action and give them the option of waiting but than you run the risk of young also

I would assume a boar's den, maybe multiples. I would set it up with bodygrips over the entry and wait. Could take a week or so if bitter cold. Maybe a female denning, might catch a couple males looking for love before she comes out. Just tell your client to be patient.

They’ll move eventually. They want to eat. Just need to keep the ice off the trap.
