If you ever do cold blueing again, skip the wd40 at the end and use a grease, such as RIG. It seems to help set it deeper blue, even it out and keeps it from rusting quickly...which is a thing with cold blueing. After a few days with RIG, you can wipe off excess and use a good quality gun oil.

I've done both bluing and browning with good results. But you'll have to do a way better job of prepping than is shown in your photo. Any of those bright areas will blue different than the darker areas. You should start by tearing it down much further. Also, someone else mentioned heat. I used to heat things in a kitchen oven, with the item suspended with a dowell or wire through the barrel so that you don't touch your grimy hands to anything after degreasing and before bluing.
I can't remember what oven temp I used, it's been years. Youtube is your friend.
Try it again, you'll get it right.
