Sure, this “beaver fleshing drum” was an accident actually. I was looking to build an extra wide fleshing beam so to get an idea of the size I slid a HDPH drum/garbage can over the beam to check out the dimensions. Well, the lightbulb came on to why not just clamp the drum on the beam. I love it! The pelts lay wide on it and allow for an 8”+ swath with the before spinning it and DO NOT slide off onto the floor!!! Never did build a new beam!!

That is pretty cool. It gives you more fleshing surface, so you don't have to move the hide so much.

But if you don't have a drum set up and you want to keep the hide from slipping off. Just place the hide dead center on your beam. That way you have the hide evenly distributed on the beam. And all you have to do is keep tunning the hide as you flesh. Take off about 6" all the way around then flesh off the center strip.

But I'm going to get a plastic drum and set it up like Seldom has shown. It will save time in the fur shed. And you won't have that end of the beam digging into your guts.

Good idea Seldom might have to give that a try.

If you can’t find one made of HDPE, find one made of heavy gauge material that’s not flimsy .

And I'll add that hard freezing the pelt and then fleshing the tail when its about 75% thawed is much easier than fleshing when fresh.

Also, take a knife and crosshatch the thick gristle b4 using the fleshing knife.

Fleshing the tail on the drum worked super well so it’s just another little adaptation to my process.

Stuff like this is why we missed you. Thanks Seldom, good tip.

I have some 15-gallon barrels that might work. But instead of cutting out one end I'm going to just cut a slot for my beam. Then I won't have to use any clamps to hold It In place on the beam. And by not removing the end should maintain the stiffness of the barrel.

Yup, that sounds like a good plan. A slot at both ends that just fits your beam and you leaning against it should stop most any lateral movement.
