Hes picked up alot of new permission..about 14,000 acres yesterday..he said there lost of sign..im.glad cause some places you can have 14000 acres and all thats on it is a pair of coyotes.lol

I just like to show that regardless of the market..if ya love it..go on and do it.

The money is good( in our world) but the memories are priceless.

One day when he possibly isnt physically able to hit it hard (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) have memories thatll see him through..he wont have wishing hed have done it regrets.

Heck. Maybe ill be able to talk him into writin a book about his trapline adventures and memories one day.. i doubt it but ya never know.
He has alot of cool stories he could tell but he doesnt want the recognition. But i want it for him.lol

I like these Jerry threads. The guy is a “do’er” and does well everywhere he goes to trap, it seems.

Peiple will call me a liar but thats ok..

A super blanket mississippi beaver will weigh 2.5 to 3 lbs and right now at 11.00 per pound thats 27.50 to 33.00 a beaver..add in the castor and the skull and ya got a solid 35.00 misssisippi super blanket beaver.

Ill be up front with you.. that for the most part. northern beaver have thicker fur and southern beaver have thicker leather so they turn out to weigh the same on the scales.



We have sold hundreds of both northern and southern beaver to extreme northern buyers with no issue. There actually the ones that explained the fur vs leather ratio to us and how southern beaver bring the same money as their northern beaver counterparts if theyre the same size.

The buyer old us he wished he had 100 nothern beaver trappers there hen he bought jerrys beaver..hr ssaid theyd never blieve the quality of them.

Paying by the pound for beaver is a new one on me. Used to be by the length plus width.

When I add in all the extras on a blanket beaver I figure it comes out north of $10 per beaver (for the extras ie skull. castor. oil sacs. baculum, etc)

Jerry works for a farmer during the summer and in between trapping trips. He tokd thelem up front ill work for you 7 days a week until trapping seasin comes in..when it cimes in im goung trapping trapping when i want.
They work with him..cause hes a good worker.
This december when he went to arkansas yote trapping they actually paid him the days he was gone. So he made money on the yotes..got paid his regular pay while he was gone,work he got a christmas bonus..he came out smellin like a rose.lol

I used on work as a CNA for years, i worked for Canon for 5 years in va. Now i occaisionally work for an old man..on a saturdays but only when im not selling ramps, peaches or apples.

I make alot of money seling roosters i collect for free and hens and pullets i buy for cheap at rural king and feed out till they start laying.

Without being too nosey, after all expenses paid, what is the net of each trapping trip? Marten, coyote, beaver? That's a lot of travelling. Has he looked at any high dollar bobcat trips?

Cathryn, how many otter sets does Jerry run to continuously catch those numbers? Understood, he’s got to be in a higher populated area ( which is why he’s there obviously), but that’s impressive. We have a good population here but seems like they still run a big range. Set their toilets , crossovers and slides, and wait sometimes 7 days for them to circle back around.

He runs 50 sets in about a 30 miles radius. He figures a week to 10 days for them to come through toi but thenotther population is just so high where he is that theres always some coming through.
He has 68 beaver and 43 otter right bow.
Hes found ifnhe runs more traps than that skinning brecomes a problem. He skins every night so he has a coyple hrss in the fur shed after hes put in a full day trapping.
He pickrd up some new territory today and said they have huge otter issue.

Hes trapping private pernission..lots of grain farmers and some old catfish pond areas..

A great beaver/otter ratio. In NY our ratio is approx.10/1.

100/1 where I live in NY. And we have no season.

Cathryn, is he trying to focus more on otter than beaver?

He has 89 beaver and 71 otter as of today

No. Hes just trapping whatever he sees sign for.
Hes caught a dozen cats and some rats too.

He does say that if he sets a smokin hot beaver trail he might catch an ottrr first or if he sets a hot otter trail lots of times theres a beaver in it first.

He caught 91 beaver, 70 otter and 12 cats.. he checked em 20 times.

Most of the guys gave him a little money per beaver for trapping em.

Even if theu dont wanna pay he still traps.

He just tells em whatever they can pay...if they cant pay thats fine too cause he just wants to trap.

Most pay between 25 and 100.00 per beaver. Some dont pay at all

Best part of that trip is it didn't RAIN everyday like it usually does this time of year! Otter to beaver ratio is great also.
