Earl Cain In Plainview, Mn. with my step dad.... or should I say no sale after all the choice words they had back and forth. Very wide eyed kid when we left with our rats. Lol

First sold muskrats,a coon, and a mink to Ezra Vincent from Chippewa Falls back in the early 1960s. He was a great guy to sell to, especially for kids.

I wish I could remember the kind buyer's name back in1975. I had a mink, (my first fur was a muskrat I skinned open and proudly pinned and dried on my bedroom wall. Yes, dried to my wall!), I case skinned and put the mink up on a 3/4" pine board I made with my dad's jig saw. I didn't know about a wedge, and when I couldn't get it off the board, I just took my boy scout jack knife and slit it up the belly. I got an address from a friend whose dad trapped, and so I wrapped the pelt in a cut up brown grocery bag and sent it to him with thoughts of riches. He lived in Salem, Oregon. About a week later, I got a check for .50, and a page with proper skinning and stretching instructions with a handwritten note telling me to keep trying. Bless his soul. Barry, was that by chance RC Rose in Salem? Chuck and I were selling him stuff in late 70's. That's it! A few years later, we would sell him fur we caught when visiting the W. Valley green, sometimes. Actually, paid for our trip over just selling nutria and the few opossum we caught incidentally.
Just doing what I want now.

The running joke with Chuck and me was that RC Rose knew how much money we had in our pockets when we came in...or, better put; our desperation level. And it was always pretty high for a couple of college students...and we got paid accordingly.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

George Smith out of Newton, NJ I was 4 years old, skinned and fleshed my own pelts. Grew up on a mink ranch and was helping skin domestic mink at that age too.. Picture from 1958 I was 6 (I am in the middle 2 cousins got in the picture but did no fur handling or much trapping). ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/02/full-11499-285655-op14.jpg)

Sold to Jack Veirs when I was 10 or 11 and I'm 73 now. Sold him a couple muskrat and he showed me the proper way to skin them and put them up. Dad sold to him for years and he was my first buyer
50 + years of trapping & some fur buying and i still know nothing.
