Exactly. Why deny a young man a job gathering shopping carts?

Reminds me of a young man a few years back that was interviewing to be a Georgia game warden (I was on the hiring board.) I asked the young man to tell me about his outdoor experience. He said he had lots of outdoor experience because he used to work at Walmart gathering shopping carts in the parking lot.

He was NOT hired.......

....I mean is it really that big of a moral deal ? I see the cart guy getting carts and he's only like 30' away... Why no just save him and me some time and push the cart over to him ?

I always return it now that I'm healthy. And I vote.

There's always 2 sides to a story.

Are some people societies slobs? Yes indeed. But one of those carts could have been left by your 92 year old grandmother who was too weak and feeble to bring it back. If I see that type of situation I get the cart for them.

But I do understand your shopping cart analogy. Guess I just wanted to play the devils advocate

If someone can push a cart all the way through the store and to their car (full of items), they’re certainly able to return it when it’s empty of items.

Doves on a power lines illiegal here, and in most states i think. As for ducks on the water, my whole goals to finish ducks in the decoy. Aint above a good water swat.

Yes capable of pushing it back to the store, but most old or crippled people use it as a walking aid. That way they don't have to load and unload their walker.
In this case it's about COMPASSION PennaTrapper for the old and feeble.

One practical reason is because the cart you leave might roll into someone's car before the lucky employee gets it. Regardless, he'll have a job anyway as he has to retrieve the carts from the corral.

My thoughts on the test.

Walking the cart back into the store or helping someone by taking their cart back in are at the top of the best options, in my opinion. But there's nothing wrong with using the corral.

There's no reward for returning the cart to the store or walking 10 yards to the corral. There's no penalty if you leave the cart.

This is about voluntarily accepting responsibility and having character to do something good without reward. Some folks only do what's right when compelled or when they receive an individual benefit. That's what makes this interesting.

Interesting....Here, most people do NOT return carts to the store, or the corrals, of course some do but it's usually because a corral is close by....People that use the handicapped spots usually leave theirs in the blue thatched areas for the next person. People will grab a cart in the parking lot close to where they parked, or park there BECAUSE theres a cart handy, lol, Every store has a cart boy.

I will occasionally return a cart to the store, or corral, but usually there's a person waiting for your cart as you unload it, instead of searching for one. lol

Must be a cultural regional thing...

One fly in the ointment of this so called test that gets the cart, or more properly the buggy, before the horse.

Expectations.

What says it of a society that expects certain behaviors vs voluntary social behaviors?

I personally choose the best behavior most conducive to a polite society based upon the circumstances given. My buggy return varies from walking it back into the store, handing it off to an employee gathering buggies or to a new arriving shopper, to positioning at the curb adjacent to the entry crosswalk, to walking it back to the nearest convenient corral if the store has had the forethought to provide one within range.

Are we being polite because it's the right thing to do or imposing it upon others?

One of the big questions fishing tourists ask when I'm guiding is "Are there many wardens here?" I wonder why? Of course, I lie and tell them, "All the time"

I like shopping carts, it’s something to lean on while someone else shops…

People who just leave them in the parking lot should be removed from society.

We just carry ours out too. Also park far from front door and out in more open part of the lot when we can.
Saves door dings and we get a little extra steps and carrying exercise too.
