A carrier strike group is an imposing force to be reckoned with.

Friend's son is CG special ops....most of the stuff he's involved in is never known publicly. He had been in the Persian Gulf weeks b4 this started. His gf is a drone pilot that flies them from the continental US to their targets and delivers the payload.
Highly likely both of these young Americans have been involved.

Osky Keep us updated, buddy. Blackout on cell service at the moment. Last text the other day “‘this is a bad one” Considering a twenty some year career in the thick of the nasty, first time Ive ever heard this from him. I venture a guess he is relating enemy desperation, fanaticism, and stupidity. We shall see. Along with the above description I cannot imagine the difficulty in coordinating so many lesser trained other nation forces who have jumped on board as of late. The fighter jets destroyed by friendly fire are just example. I see more of a cluster at this point than is being let on too. Osky

Coast guard has spec ops??? Yes and no. Yes...the Coast Guard's Deployable Specialized Force contingent is absolutely special operations capable . Very tough bunch of folks in every sense of the word. The DSF is the reason the Coasties consistently place in the top five in sniper competitions. That said, DSF doesn't fall under the Joint Special Operations Command. If I had to guess, I'd say this due adherence to law. Coast Guard has arrest authority ,like any law enforcement agency. Using JSOC folks to make arrests might really be a legal battle. People would be in the hot seat. So, in that sense, no.

Not sure about them arresting anyone but the pics and videos I've seen of that young man didn't have anything to do with arresting bad guys......it was to kill them.

They still have powers of arrest , Swampy . The “ Deployable “ part is the catch. We have DSF missions that are remarkably like any SWAT . The intent is to carry out the warrant, but if they have to use deadly force, so be it. The orders are what defines what their mission is.
Delta doesn’t have powers of arrest . DEVGRU 6 ( SEAL team 6) doesn’t have powers of arrest. DSF does. But again, that changes with the mission’s orders. If it’s operational direct action , then stack them bodies.

I was in the CG Reserve for 27 years. A fellow officer who was an attorney was sent on a top-secret mission that he would never tell me about, even though I had a top-secret clearance. I met an electronics officer who took a crew of about six men into the mountains of China during the Vietnam War. They carried a radio antenna, a small diesel engine, and a generator. When they received radio orders, they turned on their LORAN transmitter to assist AF bombers flying over Hanoi. He was highly decorated. The CG also has an intelligence component. They were involved in undercover drug investigations back in the 90s. Some CG members trained with Navy Seals.
During WWII we ferried Army infantry in landing craft, over and over again. Mortality rate at D-Day was rather high for the CG.
I mostly pushed paper around. Those kinds of stories fascinate me. There was a Coastie who received the MOH for operating a landing craft during the War of the Pacific. Everything went to crap, he kept on piloting his vessel.
