get into a protracted firefight and then answer this same question. a total of 22-23 rounds or 19 rounds per mag and at least 4 mags available. also, we carried one 30 round mag inside of our vests when i was still in LE. common sense folks. dont get me wrong, I love the 1911, but for practicality, the Glock is a no brainer.
But no one has ever shot down a plane with a 9mm glock but have with a 45 1911. Unless that story was not true about the ww2 pilot that baild out and shot down a German plain with his 1911 as it flew at him as he was drifting down in his parachute. May be a bs story Idont know?
Let's get practical and realistic. What's the chance of needing to use my gun in self defense, let alone a prolonged shoot out? What are the average # of rounds in self defense shootings in this country less than 7 im guessing .
Hear me out for a minute. Most people would be better off with a revolver. Why? Most shooting are in close, average people have poor situational awareness , and will hesitate to pull the trigger alowing it to get even closer. That increases the chance of contact shots or fight over the gun that can push the glock out of battery and make it useless. Not a problem with a revolver.
Now if you have your 1911 locked and loaded and pull the trigger before releasing the safty it will fire when the safty is released. . The safty hold the slid in battery. So for an average person thats likely to only pack a gun and no extra mag and more likely to win the lotto than be in an extended shoot out mag capacity is irrelevant in most cases.
I think the extra weight would be the biggest draw back to a 1911.
