I’ve got 3 glocks and really like them but I shoot my Sig better. My ruger 380 seems cheap and I wouldn’t want to bet my life on it.

1911 has some use I guess. Kinda heavy for a bottle opener though.

1911 is a Chevelle. Glock is Honda civic. I’d rather drive the Chevelle. But I don’t mind beating the royal snot outta my civic.

A Glock will run a 1911 into the ground

1911 looks and feels a lot cooler though

Maybe but in the initial testing on the 1911 one went 6000 rounds without a single failure to win the contract.

Honestly how many people will even shoot 6000 rounds out of the same pistol in their lifetime. And the gun would run many more times that thats when they stoped the test.

It is impressive seeing the over 100,000 round + test on glocks back in the 90s. And I sure wouldn't like it if my nice 1911 was scraping on the concrete floor when working on a vehicle where as my clock I dont mind as much.

I see my glock as a tool but the 1911s as functional art.

Have had my Glock 19 for years it’s ugly but it shoots the cheapest ammo without a hitch. Those 1911’s are sexy.

I hope they are better then the SR40. I have one and hated it ever since I bought it.

I cant give glocks a fair shake havent shot one enough, but they always feel weird in my hand.. but down own a Kimber micro 9 that goes with me everywhere I love it. Only thing is kind of picky on the ammo it wants to eat.

get into a protracted firefight and then answer this same question. a total of 22-23 rounds or 19 rounds per mag and at least 4 mags available. also, we carried one 30 round mag inside of our vests when i was still in LE. common sense folks. dont get me wrong, I love the 1911, but for practicality, the Glock is a no brainer.

Haven't been without a 1911 for 50 years. I just can't warm to the tupperware feel of the Glock.
I will say, though, that when my son bought a Springfield XDS in .45, I was bound and determined to NOT like it.
One magazine full later and I was on Palmetto's website ordering one. What's really strange is that I am a dyed in the wool revolver guy and carried J frames for years. A lifelong buddy is still a revolver guy but admits that if he only had one gun, it would be a Glock. Go figure.

But no one has ever shot down a plane with a 9mm glock but have with a 45 1911. Unless that story was not true about the ww2 pilot that baild out and shot down a German plain with his 1911 as it flew at him as he was drifting down in his parachute. May be a bs story Idont know?

Let's get practical and realistic. What's the chance of needing to use my gun in self defense, let alone a prolonged shoot out? What are the average # of rounds in self defense shootings in this country less than 7 im guessing .

Hear me out for a minute. Most people would be better off with a revolver. Why? Most shooting are in close, average people have poor situational awareness , and will hesitate to pull the trigger alowing it to get even closer. That increases the chance of contact shots or fight over the gun that can push the glock out of battery and make it useless. Not a problem with a revolver.

Now if you have your 1911 locked and loaded and pull the trigger before releasing the safty it will fire when the safty is released. . The safty hold the slid in battery. So for an average person thats likely to only pack a gun and no extra mag and more likely to win the lotto than be in an extended shoot out mag capacity is irrelevant in most cases.

I think the extra weight would be the biggest draw back to a 1911.

Just curious, as a civilian how many people on here have been in a protracted firefight? Again as a civilian.

I like that you don’t have to clean your Glock for it to shot consistently, no rust.
I used to have(before the boating accident) a 19 first gen serial # 83
It has a million rounds through it. All I have done is put a trigger in it.
