A missile will ruin your day. A torpedo will ruin your life. A mk 48 is more than likely what they used. Ships don't float well when split in two. I wonder if they were sailing ready for war hatches and bulkhead shut.

Do you know how the warhead on a Mk 48 compares to the torpedos used in WWII? I’m guessing 10X more powerful but really have no clue

Everything the left touches it destroys

Not much difference in warhead size, the key difference is the arming/detonation cycle. WWII torpedos used contact detonators to blow holes in the sides of vessels. Today's fish use proximity fuses to blow up directly underneath a vessel.

The difference is the first creates a leak that lets water in. Enough water in the vessel sinks.
The second creates hydrostatic lift, a big explosion bubble, that lifts the vessel from the water allowing gravity to join in on the damage from the warhead and snap the vessel like a pencil.

If you look at the video you see the stern completely broken off by the explosion under the keel. The full video shows her going down by the stern.

I'm not sure. I worked beside the guys that fired them but dont know much about them except they're good if you're firing it not so good if you're on the buisness end. They must be terrible expensive because the only thing we practiced was loading them. Funny thing is i don't remember any counter torpedo measures being exercised.

Apparently $5.3 million a pop for the newest version. The cost and wait time to replace the ship must be crazy.
