When you make fish oil is it the same way as making BTO except you gut the fish so you just have the meat, skin and bones?
And then you just put in a bucket to render down?
Thanks

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

Thanks for the pictures. If I get some walleye this year I'll do the same.
I more so have rainbow & kokanee more to my disposal at the moment.

It seems to me it would be a lot easier to just buy it. LOL

It can be some work and stink depending on the volume of material. End result is justified if done well to keep it pure.

It is.

But try to find GOOD sun rendered oil in any significant quantity right now that’s not gonna cost an arm and a leg.

Very few making it these days.

X2 I've tried making it here with no luck. I dont know if our fish is lacking enough fat to make sufficient oil or we are lacking enough heat to get it done in the quantity i tried. Really good fish oil that is worth using in formulation is getting very hard to find and very expensive. Since I started playing around making lures and baits I've had at least 4 sources of fish oil disappear and the one source id trust is expensive enough it doesn't leave much profit for me in the quantity I prefer to use it in.

Much prefer the darker stronger oil that I assume comes from having the skin and meat in the beginning product

With all of this being said, what type of fish makes the best fish oil?

Also can bass and panfish work if that’s what’s available?

The darker oil made with meat and skin has alot stronger smell to me and quite a bit sweeter smell, ive made it both ways. But I haven't seen a difference in using it while trapping. So I make it the easiest way for me.
As you've taught me in your posts, let the animal tell you what it wants.
So this is my method and it works for me. Someone else may have different results in different locale.
As always Yes sir I value your opinion.
