DRF, have you found different points from different time periods,,
Aka paleo, archaic, woodland! Mississippian, ??

I have a fantastic occupation site,,, I’ve found ALL of the above time periods there..
I have 2 Clovis points I’ve found there.. and mostly archaic time periods.
I don’t find as much woodland and missippian stuff there. But my absolute favorite is a Cahokia point.. had the very tip broken off.

Foxkidd I believe I do. I have yet to find any paleo yet and that’s gonna make my day when I do. I believe this point is a grahams cave and if so would make it early archaic and I have found about every time period at this spot. It is pretty large and takes awhile to over. The recent Madison I found there I thought was my first but going through my collection this past weekend I found another Madison slightly larger then the one I just found. Now I need that Clovis point to make this spot everything lol.

How do you explain so many used up knives looking identical? Just a question I was wondering. Something else I wonder about... why is it everyone says that they look for chips and find arrow heads... but like how is that explained? I can't wrap my mind around why there would be people standing on a rise (to be able to see out I assume / dry) knapping arrowheads (making chips) and finding whole arrow heads there??? Like why would they stand there, make them, and throw multiple of them on the ground for people to find in the same spot later... like enough of them for everyone to say if you find chips look for arrow heads? How can that come to be?

The vast majority of “arrowheads” are used up knives.

Ohio boy, you see all that and you’re on what used to be a village or campsite. No different then finding trash we leave behind after gone only they didn’t create as much trash

My guess, and I see it here, When they're making points you get the chips, and any inferior, to them, points, are discarded. where I find most of mine, the points look either slightly broke, or partially made and dumped. They look good but maybe not "good enough"...YMMV... smile

Ohio, we all lose our tools no matter what time period.
Imagine someone finding a set of truck keys in a thousand years… if they have not completely corroded.
More broken artifacts are usually found than complete ones on occupation sites.
Axes, celts were usually too dang heavy to carry around… so they made new ones when they set up somewhere else.
