Thanks guys. Was a fun season, learned a lot about open country trapping compared to the timber I have been for the lprevious 7 seasons or so.

Went out yesterday to scratch the itch and put in 8 muskrat sets in 2 different small sloughs. All were lured/baited sets which have become a favorite of mine for muskrats. Checked today. First spot 2 muskrats out of 3 traps. Second slough I had made 5 sets all within probably 30 yards of each other. The slough is not much bigger than that. I had a live buck mink that didn't drown in the Victor 1.5 long spring and was waiting on the bank for me. He had stunk up the area bad. Guessing that is why no muskrats in the other 4 sets. He will get tanned along with the muskrats.

Thanks, as a German Shorthair she specializes in birds but fills in nicely as a trap line dog. Although on the water line she's more of a hindrance than anything but she has fun!

I'm a mustelid guy at heart so I know what you mean. The mink scream got me. Little sucker was mad.

Nice! I did the same this week, took the wife out and we set a few muskrat traps. All blind except a marten box set on the ground for mink. Not many muskrats around here but I knew a couple little clay pit ponds that had a few. Water was way high when I got there, up into the trees and had any runs covered so I didnt have much confidence, but first check I had two rats.

That's awesome bearcat! I bet your wife loved that. Same here not many rats around so I try to be careful about how many I trap and where. The mink was a surprise too.

Yeah, she likes to go trapping, particularly if we can go in the truck and leave at what she considers a reasonable hour. She isn't so keen on leaving three hours before daylight and spending the day fighting ruts on a snowmobile. lol

Same here, these were both males, I figure if I catch two females out of here I am going to pull my traps.
