Yup. I prehook a lot of mine, although sometimes they are hooked on something I wouldn't trust to chain solid to, but there is a drag on it if they pull loose or pull up whatever I precooked to. They almost never do, though.

I run the same drags for wolf as I do for coyote, so they are all big and heavy. I think drag and 8' of #5 chain weigh about 8 1/2 pounds. All my drags have a minimum of 8' of chain, some have more. And yeah even with one of those heavy drags and about 12" of chain I once had a wolf go close to half a mile. Took me about an hour to find, but generally nothing goes out of sight of the set.
