I think that was in Scribner NE, 1977. Home of Smeal Hide and Fur. I sold a lot of critters to Harry and Bob over the years. They had “The market, our guess” article in “The Trapper” for years.

1996 NTA Midland Michigan

First one I was around was about '83 or '84 in Kansas.
A lot of the big names then are out of the game now. Some deceased, some just moved on. "Long-lining" was all the rage. There was some decent money to still be made but it seemed the better money was in telling/showing/selling others on how to do it, even then. Some of the best never sold anything but furs.

I would have guessed about 1978/1979 but looking at the list that Kzoo made for us 1975 would be the first one. However, I was young and it didnt mean alot to me. My memory of it is basically a different version of the winter fur sale held there back then. The first one that really stands out was Gaylord a few years later

Mine was 2009 Lima Oh. I had been to a Western Reginal before that in Nephi Utah. The Nationals are a ways away from Oregon. Slept the first night in a rental car in Ohio, Slept under a tarp next to my motorbike going to Nephi. Rode home from there in one long day, was over 900 miles if I recall, had a catch all pole sticking out the back.

NTA at Marshall town Iowa in 1981. Slept in the back of my pickup. Didn't have much money and wanted to spend it all on trapping supplies. Bought a quart of beer and a dozen donuts which was mostly what I ate and drank for three days! What a great time I had!

Trapper, no I never sold to that guy. Would have been a far drive for me as a young trapper growing up around Wilber area.

Somewhere in the mid 90s.one in rochester minnesota and one in midland michigan
One guy was giving demos about bedding traps with railroad guage plugs and when he found out I worked on the railroad he was interested if I could get him a few sacks full.I think he called it powerbedding or something-another gimmick I figured.
Another guy was selling a book about some new method of setting underwater mink traps he called it bottom edge.
Didnt have the heart to tell him we were using sets like that for decades for trapping otter rats and mink under ice,lol.



My daughter born in 94 was 2 years old here with mackinac bridge in the background,she wasnt at all impressed.lol
