It's about the same price here on the east coast. It's gone up since last year but not that much. It was around $30 for the same bag last season.

Most of this comes from Canada. Now take a guess why prices of Canadian products are so high now. Go ahead, take a guess. And thank the frontotemporal dementia patient clown in the White House. Joe Biden is no longer the president.

Tommyran can't live too far from Canada, maybe we should start a "go fund me" page so he can be happy with his move.

Y'all made me curious so I had to check what it was here now. It's definitely gone up since last fall, surely due to tariffs. It's doubled in price! But, still not so bad as Vinke's. There's almost 25% lest peat in that bag than the one in Vinke's pic. If it was the same amount it would cost about $28.00, still cheaper. I've tried other brands and had issues with moisture and twigs/debris in it. The Premier brand can usually be used right out of the bag, no drying or sifting necessary. I do still dry it in the summer though. But if I run low towards the end of the season I can get another bag and use as is.

The OP was astonished at the higher peat moss price. I think it’s logical to discuss reasons for this. It certainly appears that decisions made by our current political party in charge has had a direct effect on peat moss prices. 1) I would say "I remember better pricing" expresses astonishment...... 2) I think it's also logical to discuss reasons for this. 3) I agree with your assessment of the reasons for it. 4) I think you should be able to logically discuss the reasons for it without resorting to comments like: And thank the frontotemporal dementia patient clown in the White House. since the owner of the site has said he will not tolerate bashing of the current president. Wouldn't you agree???

Our local Lowes has that same 3 cu.ft. bag for $19.98. Bob, I noticed that the Premier brand peat moss now comes in a 3 ft.³ bag. It only used to be available in 2.2 ft.³ or 3.8 ft.³ like the one in Vinke’s picture. A 3 ft.³ bag is $27.98 at my local Lowe’s.

Rat Masterson, tariffs or not, I would expect any products exported from Canada to use any and all reasons to raise prices simply out of spite for what we’ve done to them.
Yote, yes I would agree. His site, his rules. If you don’t like it, don’t comment. It’s just amusing to me that now that the “shoe is on the other foot” politically, some refuse to acknowledge that the exact topics they were bashing our last administration for (food, gas, commodities, interest rates, peat moss prices) are as bad or worse now. Maybe we need a third party?

It was $8 forever, then a few years ago went to $11, now $23 here. But Rat's right, there are no tariffs on it. I imagine some companies jacked the price due to tariff uncertainty though. And higher freight costs are certainly a contributing factor. My couple minutes of research on peat moss also showed that last year was a poor harvest year for it so like as with any other commodity, that would also factor in.

So because a company jacks up their prices that's Trumps fault? Under the previous administration food went up 25 to 50% inflation 22%, interest rates are pretty flat, gas was good until the war, when it ends it will be again. You just don't like the Donald and that's it.

There is plenty of peat moss in the US, we don't need to import.
I wonder if Canada allows the US to export peat. They about have a heart attack if we try to bring night crawlers across in "dirt". I don't think peat is allowable either. I believe it has to be inert bedding like paper mulch

atrapper, if we could get a viable conservative 3rd party that would be well worth looking into. Unfortunately I don't see that happening.
I know and most on here do as well that we vote for the candidate that is the lesser of two evils. I don't trust any of them and that's too bad. I consider Trump vote more of a third party compared to full time republican. We elected a business man that is trying to run a country that is going down hill with liberal nonsence. I apologize to all the poor soles from NY and will make sure I add the C if I post about the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) hole.
