The bubble is hugging the left line on the level. Might be 1/8" out of level over the total of your horizontal beam.

According to my uncle's that's the best way to do something like this . Guys 80 and have been building houses 60 odd years so figured he knows what's he's talking about . Still gotta go back and add the braces but waitinf for the concrete to dry

Engine Hoist? If it's gonna support heavy loads, You might wanna put in a block directly under that cross beam for extra support.

Women do like swings. Diane talks about getting a porch swing every once in a while, but we don't really have a porch for it. I think it will support the weight of you two and some future little ones fine.

x2 should have notched the post as well.
But for a yard swing it shouldnt be an issue.

I saw that as well. Cut load bearing by at least half. The uprights is where the notch should've been.

Spike a couple 2x6 inside the uprights to get back some load bearing.

WD imagine you want to make a joint fail by over loading it- would it take more force to split the horizontal beam where you have already cut it or to drive a post into the ground? That is why removing material from the posts would have no consequences while cutting the cross piece might.

For a swing stand and with a brace you should still be fine but I just wanted to share how the ol men in my family and the ol farts I day waged for would answer my how to questions. They would train me how to work the problem and rib me raw if I did it bass ackwards!

You could get a couple of pieces of 1/8th' thick, 2' angle iron as long as the posts are wide and screw them in the inside angle of the posts for added rigidity.

Whether you're building rabbit hutches, roofing houses or building love swings that you and the wife can swing in while gazing out at your livestock, we are here for you with plenty of advise on how you should proceed.

Think of it as synergy. A brain trust.
