Wish I could send some of our rain your way Patrick. It’s wet here. How far east of town is it?

Ohh wow thats terrible. Im sure there have been some evacuations. I sure hope people are safe. The current area of the fire is sparsely populated with residences and hunt camps. Evacs have been on-going for a couple days based on wind direction forecasts. Today things have intensified. This southern pineywoods rough will burn hot. Saw some pics yesterday of flames pushing 100ft tall.

Here at home, there has been 1/2" of rain since September. Total of 4" of snow all winter. Nebraska had over 1 1/2 million acres burn a couple of weeks ago. Closest was 8 miles from the house. Several smaller fires recently. Never seen it this dry! Roy

Just text Brian McKee, owner of Southern Snares. They have been dealing with a huge fire over his way also. Thanks to God's blessing and Georgia Forestry Commission dozer operators his home and business were saved. Fire burnt completely around his home and business....right up to the buildings/yard areas & the newly plowed breaks. That fire has consumed many homes. 5000 acres burnt as of this morning. Brian sent me this pic..... ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/04/full-11603-291458-1000004264.jpg)

No humidity in Florida yet? Wild fires are going to be a thing this year if we don't start getting rain and continued rain through till next wintah. A bad deal!!

Swamp, how much blowdown is still on the ground from Helene? That would be nothing but gasoline for that fire.
A lot of hurricane debris on the ground in timber blocks that haven't been salvage logged yet. And all the bays and swamps are a tangled mess since the hurricane. It's getting cleaned up in places now for sure. Report is fire is up near 30,000 acres now.

29606 acres as of last update today.
Been delivering meals to the dozer operators all afternoon. Got a good look at the torched timberlands.
Currently the burned area is approximately 15+ miles long x 9+ miles wide.

My heart goes out to the timber owners. Helene and now this and it's not like timber has been doing great the past few years. I imagine some of the land will be going on the market after this is over. It'll bring literal dirt pricing.
If they put it back into production after clean up and replant costs It'll be over a decade to get anything out of it and with pulp in the tank that'll clear nothing. True^^^ except most of this land is owned by large companies. And many of them have been down this road before and they are not in the land selling business. Two of these companies have their own dozers and their operators & managers are excellent wildland firefighters.

… glad yall are alright uncle Swamp
… sounds like a biggin … hope they get it under control soon We're good in town (where I live). Closest fire flank is about 8 miles northeast of town and due to the wind direction it is currently progressing in a northwesterly direction. This is the largest private lands only wildlife since the 1950s in this area. It'll be approaching 40,000 acres with another windy day. We had a huge wildfire in 2007 (560,000+ acres), but 90% of that one was on Okefenokee NWR, a road-less, inaccessible block of public land.

Georgia sent a request for assistance to other southeastern states and were refused due to the fire danger conditions in their respective states. Said it was 1st time North Carolina and Texas ever refused assistance. Gonna be a long hot summer!

I know Florida has fires of their own they're dealing with. I'm surprised Texas would say no. Next door in Alabama they're on high alert.

The fire west of Brunswick, Ga (called the US82 Fire) & near Southern Snares/Brian Mckee, has grown to over 21,000 acres and over 100 homes destroyed. It's been raging due to the higher wind conditions near the Atlantic coast.
The fire near me has ate 32,000 acres, but it has remained mostly depressed the past 3 days except for large swamps burning inside the fire perimeter. This fire has not burned any occupied homes yet, but has burnt several campers and hunt camp facilities in addition to an older homeplace that was kept up by the family as a reunion location.
