I dont know much about them. Always been a coniber , snare or foothold guy. I know there are
push or pull type or both for coons. Which are the easiest to set, bait and buy for occasional coon eradication?
Need to get a few for coon management around deer and hog feeders.
Any help is appreciated.

I'll bite....All I have are the pull type Lil Griz's, they work just fine, I imagine they're all pretty close.... Never had a pullout, but we rarely get a 20# er....

For limited use any should work for you....

In my honest opinion,, I believe the best dog proof out there are the Diablo dog proofs. I have used them for several years now and I don’t believe I’ve ever had a pullout.
They are the easiest dog proof there is to set without the need for setters( I know some people need setters for other brands for various reasons).
They have a clean out door and they don’t seem to rust as easily.
And they are the cheapest ones out there that I’ve seen.
Wolf creek products has them.
I am not familiar with their other traps,, hence a prior post regarding their 330s which I was curious about.

There really isnt much benefit of the push part of a DP trigger. For the push part to work, there must be a gap between the the bait and the trigger or the trigger wont move. If you're using marshmallows or other squishy bait that will compress they will work, or hope your bait is so good and/or the coon is so hungry that they clean the bait out enough to make the necessary gap. Its a nice to have option but its not a deal breaker.

Easiest to set is probably the FB1 or the Diablos. If you need help to set them, plenty of setters out there. Coon Creek just came out with a really good scissor-style setter for DPs.

I think I'm up to at least 4 brands of DP's, and for someone wanting to dip their toe in this style of trap, I'd start with Dukes. Unless it is a pull only, it is not dog or cat proof. I'm sensitive to this as I'm in a suburban neighborhood with lots barn cats.

A Duke DP with right bait will catch coon just fine. If unable to set one with bare hands, all you need is a long handled screwdriver. Works the same as the trap setters.

I have mostly NoBS DP’s and Dukes. They are all pull only and both have been solid for several years.

The only ones I would stay away from after the Freedom Brand FB2’s, had one fail (springs bend) the first time I set it. Manufacturer would not stand behind their product. Their customer service and their manager stated that because it had been set it wasn’t covered.

I am running mostly Duke , are they the best , probably not but they definitely work and what local suppliers had at rondys for a reasonable price

I have never had a pull out , I also try to not give them a good place to pull on

once I had a big boar who did get ahold of a large wild grape vine pulled around 30 feet of it out of a tree and had it wrapped around the trap and chain when I got there. he was still held but was not a deep hold. after that I was even more careful to avoid letting them have a good place to grab and pull

pull seem to work , I seldom get to a trap and it is cleaned out unless I have a tiny little dink often caught by both front paws in the next trap.

they can be set plenty light

I've tried almost all of them out there. The EZ-Traps are the best IMO, but are no longer available. So IMO, based on current production traps, best overall goes to z-traps, and best value goes to dukes.

My favorite are ausable PCS featherlight
All aluminum, light and built to last.
