I assume you mean driving the Amish around? Amish kid use to trap with us so I've driven quite a few around but there are people near the Amish that do it as a job; some specialize in driving for things like routine shopping trips into city, others haul them long distances between the various communities in Michigan and Indiana, others haul Amish businesses like builders to job sites or to do inspections/quotes, etc

Yes I do it mostly locally up to about 100 miles. Shopping, auctions, fishing,doctor appointments etc. A lot of different and interesting things. Probably go to the smoke shop a few times a week.

Had a friend that had a van and he ran them all over from here to the northeast. He said weddings and funerals was the big thing. He always enjoyed the meals when they got to their destinations. He told about one time there was 150 people all stayed at a house in hot weather. He stayed in the van.

One time he took a bunch out west on vacation. That was at some big National Forest where they had up signs not to walk on the trails so as to not damage whatever the elk were feeding on. They did so anyway and my buddy was supposed to meet them on the other side of the mountain. But a Park Ranger met them first, it cost 8 of them like a $150 a piece. One pregnant girl stayed in the van with my buddy and didn't get fined, lol.

Yeah once or twice a month I give an Amish family a ride to and from doctors appt. We trade for labor.

I usually get paid but they also buy lunch a lot. Free eggs and donuts once in a while. Eggs are only $2 a dozen up here.

Around here they call them Yoder toters. I know one lady who had a job hauling an Amish logging crew and their horses to the jobsite daily. She hauled them out there and read her books all day while they worked then drove them back home. She did it for years, but I don't think she does anymore.

Full time job for many around here. They usually end up buying large vans. One way to keep the government out of your pocket. Amish pay cash

Pay well enough for a retirement job. Not as well here as in Ohio or Indiana. If it's an auction or funeral or anything that lasts for a few hours or more I bring my fishing pole.

I will not drive them to the store to shop, but regularly take them on 100 or mile trips. have taken some on 1 to 2 week trips.

I have 2 friends that drove for the Amish when they were younger, twenty plus years ago. They made good money, but found it very boring and a little frustrating. From some other people I've talked to, I think it currently pays $80.00 plus an hour, for a full van full, to drive the Amish around, minus expenses, such as fuel and vehicle maintenance. This is in Hepburn, Ohio and the surrounding area.

Some drivers take them pretty frequently to Amish colonies in other states.

I got a brother-in-law that quit a high school teaching job to drive them full time. He gets paid 1 dollar a mile. Plus room if over nights. He spent 2 weeks last October on an elk hunt with 4 Amish men in Utah. 7800 bucks plus he stayed in the hunting lodge. His wife drives some now. Oldest boy finished high school on line so he could drive full time

My sister has an Amish contractor replacing her greenhouse. Part of deal is ride to and from the job.

Amish Taxi is a big deal here around home, we have an extremely large and dense Amish population. The taxi biz is an interesting mix of folks who just run a few folks here and there for the neighbors and keep it low key to people running multiple vans and family members. I don't do taxi work as the money is not good enough for the miles, wait time and super early or late hours. Folks can make a living but it's not for me. Per our state law in Indiana to run a business transporting people you have to carry a 1.5Mil commercial liability policy and virtually none of the taxi folks do. Huge risk toting 10-15 passengers down the road in a van without that policy for $1.25 a mile. Great way to lose everything you own in my opinion.

I did run a full time local delivery service for the Amish community the last few years before I retired and now still do a bit part time (trapping, fishing and hunting money!). After I was down sized I bought a 3/4 ton diesel pick up, a 25 ft flat bed goose neck, a stock trailer and a small utility trailer. Already had access to an enclosed trailer and went to work. The demand in our area was and is incredible. I was fortunate to build a very nice business quite fast and still have a great little part time biz when I want to work. I sold the goose neck when I retired as it was 60 percent of my business, that slowed me down considerably and now I just work when and where I want. Hours are far better than taxi work and the compensation is considerably more. I've hit it fairly hard this spring and am now backed off and fishing. I'll probably start up again for a while in July and August when I'm not fishing as much. I actually enjoy it quite a bit and have developed some excellent customers who have become friends. I run a 2Mil commercial liability policy and spend a few hundred dollars a year in advertising. Other than operating expense it's a pretty simple and decent biz.. Until you load up a bunch of springer heifers off fresh grass, then it's about a crappy business!! lol.. It's supposed to rain here Monday so I booked an enclosed trailer load of bedding plants from a large commercial grower to do 3 deliveries to retail outlets and to move a stud horse after that. About 4 hours work and that will be enough for the week. Only thing I touch unloading is doors and a horse lead rope. I run a lot of mares to the stud and there are often times no one is home for pick up or delivery so you manage that yourself. That's a bit of insight into Amish taxi and Amish trucking lol. I've got my 4 weeks out of state fishing covered and my 6 weeks in Idaho covered for this fall. Working on next years Alaska trip now

Father in law lives almost in the middle of a small Amish community, he does alot of that for them. Makes pretty decent money. But he doesnt take them out of state just around locally from jobs sites, stores, dr appointments.

Lots of folks haul Amish around my area. Police are cracking down on “ taxi licensing”
If you get hooked up with one or two families and keep it hush, it’s good cash. 1.25 to 1.50 per mile. Then waiting on them while they are shopping or at doctor’s appts, additional 15.00 per hour. Lots of middle aged women haul them around and the Amish ladies feel more comfortable with them.

The legit haulers have taxi license numbers on their vehicles and have insurance. They will rat on the others hauling when given the opportunity.

Don't get anywhere near $1.50 here in Northern Wisconsin. Maybe $1.00 pulling a trailer. Small community of about 40 families. But they also always throw in eggs or baked goods. I've gotten pickled fish and bait from the bait shop. Went to their green house yesterday and got a dozen vegetable plants. Keeps me and my mind busy not thinking about other things that just bring me down.
