Most of my immediate family would be considered white collar . And I'm blue collar , like talking to aliens sometimes. Love em just odd at times What makes perfect logical sense to me vs them and vice versa are two completely different things alot of times . Thell ask if I make all this money why dont I buy a nice looking new vehicle instead of driving the farm truck ? Don't make sense to me why get into more debt when the farm truck works just fine and barely gets used . And shoot some of the wealthiest guys I been around drive beaters . Will still pull out a billfold of 100's and buy what they want on the spot though lol.
List goes on.
Anyone else ?

There are plenty of blue collar folks in debt more than my first house and 2 acres cost me on vehicles.

Did you not notice it here when I posted about my old rangers transmission. Buy a new one spend 50 to 100k financing it is the smart move to some. But I have bought 2 vehicles for myself in the last 10 years purchase price combined $6400. Yes I had some matanance cost. But thats a lot cheaper than buying a new one not including the higher insurance license plates and intrest. Even paying cash and not financing they have opertunity cost. The simple idea that some people are happy driving old used vehicles and would rather save and invest than buy a shiny truck with way to much technology in it thay cant comprehend. But thats nothing to so with pay scale.

I'd say I'm mostly viewed as being "white collar" by society although I'd argue my job can be physically demanding like blue collar jobs. I feel it puts me in a weird spot where I get treated differently due to a title even though I feel I can relate more to blue collar workers. My immediate family is blue collar as well so we see things similarly. I'm like you in the fact that my vehicles are 13 and 15 yrs old. I put on around 50 to 60 thousand a yr and i just can't justify putting that mileage on a new vehicle.

They are stimulating the economy. If there working let them buy what they want to buy. I don't worry what others do it is a waste of my time and I can't do anything about it. The only things that are important should use your time or your wasting your time.

Three generations of school teachers both sides with an accountant father. But all were one generation removed from the farm. So I got a country upbringing by college graduates. I kind of upset the apple cart by quitting school to go in the Army at 17 and ain't looked back.

I get you on talking to the other side. I can code switch and pick just how I want to come across. If I'm in a mood I can still upset the apple cart, lol.

Mama tried to raise me better but her pleading I denied.

That's true for some and not for others. I am a degreed engineer and my wife a degreed chemist. Is that not white collar? At 71 I still change my own oil and have never paid anyone to change my oil. I do all the maintenance on our house and have for almost 50 years, cut our own grass (5 acres), cut our firewood to heat in winter, ect. Getting older with back problems, I am paying others to do some of the things I used to do, but I don't like it a bit. Our kids are white collar and, to my disgust, pay others to do what they could and should learn to do themselves, but that is their choice and was never mine.

At my first wedding I met an aunt for the first time and she says "What college did you go to?" I said "I didn't go to college" and said she "Oh" and walked away.

Found out later she was a Liberian, nothing wrong with that but I probably make 5 times what she does.

I'd suggest you're painting with too wide of a brush!

Definitely blue collar with good financial sense. I drive a 2004 truck and the wife drives a 2013 suv. Live in a simple 1500sq foot home with no desire to live in debt up to my eyeballs. I work a hard physical labor job in utility pipeline and heavy equipment. A lot of people believe being poor is a curse but fact of the matter is if you have the desire to work and learn new skills to help yourself in life to save money it can be a blessing. I do my own mechanic work. Put new shingles on my roof, do my own taxidermy, do my own plumbing and septic work, etc.

Bout how I feel but lotta keeping up with the jones mentality with alot of white collar folks I noticed. Gotta aunt who some kinda fancy office worker or something. Anytime I see her in town she can help but mention something about my pants having paint stained, me always in work boots or crocs , the farm truck, I need to look like I have money yadda yadda .... And the idea of me just kinda not caring too much just baffles her . Will talk about what's the point in making money if you don't show off ? Told her the poorer I seem the easier it is to be left alone lol

Really you to ?! Shoot I would have been a third generation teacher if I went that way. Third gen army though.

Apparently the blue collar deal skips a generation and grabs one of the litter in the next according to my dad
Apparently it was my great grand , skipped grandad, hit both my uncle's ( grandmas brothers ) skipped my dad and popped me in the head . Apparently we're all the same deal , can't sit down , miserable if where not cobbling something together or stuck in an office.

Makes me wonder what's gonna happen with my kids if we can ever get that ball rolling . Last two generations of the wife's dads side where oil rig hands

My mom said she honestly have no clue how hat I'm talking about 80% of the time lol

My entire family, that's working, including aunts, uncles and first cousins, would be considered white collar, possibly all of my second cousins too. Most of my family has doctorates, or masters degrees, or in some cases both. I own 1 1/2 businesses and do work that would be considered both.
