I think Cuba is going to become a US Territory under our 48th president, President Marco Rubio. Marco is really starting to shine.

No cousin, I think not. Cuba doesn't have much to offer except possibly a vacation destination. Who wants to vacation with a bunch of angry Cubans?

I think that Cuba will be a net drain on the US and then fairly quickly be less of a drain than Puerto Rico. People want to travel there. Cuba has a mystique about it.

Dont think so. Been there, done that, didn't work out. But we will probably end up with the bill anyway, like usual.

Why would we even want Cuba? For the two additional Democrat US Senator they would give us?
We really need to cut Puerto Rico loose, the Dems really want to make it a State.

Cuba has a lot to offer,,, it’s a lot like/exactly like Florida

Unbelievable potential,,,,agriculture/resource development/ tourism

Going over Florida, flying into Cuba,,,,, Florida must be the pleasure boat capital of the world

Boats every where,,, all the flats are prop scared up,,,big deep channels dredged out,,,ugly!

As soon as u enter Cuban waters,,, no boats,,, gorgeous untouched flats,,,, amazing!!!

Google: "Cuba's primary natural resources are centered on mining, specifically holding the world's second-largest nickel reserves and significant cobalt deposits. Other key resources include petroleum, natural gas, arable land, and timber, along with extensive biodiversity and coastal tourism assets. Key industrial minerals include limestone, silica sand, bentonite, kaolin, and zeolite."

The Cubans I've noticed seemed to have a good work ethic and family values...when the Puerto Ricans first arrived here, most went on welfare....They seemed to have assimilated now though....but it's been 60 years...
I do know that the Cubans have a poor view towards the Puerto Ricans, lol, Not sure whats that about....

I think the biggest benefit would be not having Russian and China influence 90 miles off the coast of the U.S.

Maybe Canada will "acquire" them and take care of them with your tax dollars.

I have all the good fishing spots I need right here.

The Cuba experiment has been interesting. They sought to become self-sufficient under Castro but it has never worked out. They just don't have the resources and always depended on help from sympathetic others.

There are only two reasons the US would have any interest in Cuba...to remove any potential threat 90 miles away and to appease a very strong political group in south Florida of vengeful ex-pat Cubans who never got over it.

I think really only your second reason is valid. Cuba has not been a threat in decades. Best thing would be to shake hands and normalize relations.

Cuba failed because communism/state controlled economy always fails,,,,

Not because they don’t have resources

The easy fix for Cuba is to unleash capitalism

Without heavy government controls,,,, as they have now with the very limited amount of capitalism that they currently allow

I'd have to study on Cuba, on the one hand they have been a potential threat for an awful long time, and have drawn support from our rivals in order to continue to be a potential threat and make us look over our shoulder occasionally while dealing with places like Russia and China. Clear back in Theodore Roosevelt's time we were militarily involved on Cuba. But would we really lower the threat level by incorporating them in the US, with all the pro communist and socialist citizens?

I spent a week there in 1999. It would be hard to find a nicer people than Cubans. While I was there I went rogue and stayed at non-sanctioned places...read that "regular Cuban homes". It was a blast and since I am a Spanish speaker I had some great conversations with regular folk. Finding homes to stay at was like cutting a drug deal on the streets here. Completely illegal and a lot of nervous looking over shoulders before making a deal. Cuban pesos were worthless, but dollars were in super high demand. The way most Cubans were able to survive was with dollars being sent from relatives in the states. But if you didn't have that blessing then you had to do something black market like selling chickens to resort areas, etc etc.

Cubans had a dispensary card that entitled them to certain things in state run stores. Included in the 10-12 basics were tobacco and rum. Most of the time the state stores were out of everything. A family of four was only allotted 8 lbs of rice per month if I remember right. Pretty hard to survive on that.

Prostitution had recently become strictly forbidden; an edict from Castro himself...and it was assumed that any Cuban woman found in the presence of a foreigner was hooking and would be arrested on the spot. $2700 fine (US dollars) or 3 years jail. I had rented a car and was stopped at a police checkpoint; when they saw my wife they just assumed she was Cuban (first wife Mexicana), they were very polite to me but were yelling and screaming at her until they saw her passport. Little kids in villages would yell Jinetera! Jinetera!!! at our car when they saw my wife. LOL Cuban jargon for "comfort girl".

LOL

Both China and Russia have bases on Cuba dedicated to intercepting US military and other communications. If Cuba was ours, they couldn't do that anymore, at least openly. In the US, Cubans are the most conservative ethnic minority.

The potential threat is what I was thinking of too as being the only reason we might want Cuba.
I think Marco Rubio will one day be president. He is extremely intelligent and articulate.

Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.
