Guys , how many of you used to watch wrestling or still watch it? I remember watching it with my dad since the early 8os. Before the wwf and other national promotions came out. I don’t watch it anymore,,, it’s just boring now… I guess it had a degree of believability back then… and the identities characters today just don’t seem interesting.
My dad was a very big and strong man,,, 6’2 and 260 pounds worked road construction and built like a tank. We went to a live event when we were kids and we were horrible. There was an incident where one of the wrestlers was tossed out of the ring,, he was wearing a mask and we had. Front row seats… my brothers and myself dumped our drinks on him… We wasn’t scared of him… because we knew he wasn’t gonna mess around with our dad,,, lol.
Of course he stayed in character and ignored us,,, and our dad made sure the hard way that we didn’t do that again when we got home. Fun times.
Stand by your principles, Stand by your guns, and victory complete and permanent is sure at last. Abraham Lincoln

Rowdy Roddy Piper was my fav when I was little. My brother was super involved in wrastlin and he managed to get WWF to come to the high school once. Razor Ramon was there among others. But once I was outta Jr High I lost interest in it. Used to actually get depressed once a pay per view like WrestleMania was over and couldn’t go to school the next day

I grew up redneck, we were big into the WWF. We bought tickets and went to a high school auditorium to watch the first Wrestlemania on a big screen. LOL
I remember all the great old characters, Haystacks Calhoun, Chief Jay Strongbull, Ivan Putski, and even some of the newer ones were pretty good, Hulk, Hogan, of course, the Macho Man the Ultimate Warrior, Nature Boy Rick Flair, Captain Lou Albano, the Undertaker…
It’s been decades since I watched it. I’m into MMA now.
Eh...wot?

@bogmaster might like this? But I used to wash dishes on weekends graveyard shift Friday and Saturday nights when I was 15 at Rays truck stop on top of the hill above the St Croix river heading to Hudson Wisconsin on I94. And the limos would pull up and out would come Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Barron Von Rasche and the Shiek and Sargent Slaughter and every other AWA star you could think of, not always all at once but every weekend some of em all riding together and smokin cigars traveling between Minneapolis and Milwaukee.
They were all cool and nice to us all but the road warriors were dicks…to everyone.. lol

I remember watching wrestling, from a very early age, with my brother and Dad , as Mom made Sunday dinner. That would have been the early 70's.
Even then, I think I knew it was not totally real, but still enjoyed the entertainment value of it.
Then , during the mid 80's , I had started watching again, and when I was about 14 or 15, Dad agreed to take me to a live show. After it was over , all I wanted to do was go home and tell my brother about how cool it was.
Dad said we had to stop and see if Mom was still at her friends place. Unbeknownst to me, " her friends place" was the bar, at the hotel, where most of the wrestlers were staying . The gate to the bar area was pulled closed, and I told Dad " yep , it's closed , let's go". He called down the hall for Mom and she poked her head around the corner, saw it was us , and had her friend come and unlock the gate. When we turned the corner into the bar area, I was amazed. Here were most of the wrestlers, that I had just watched, all sitting around , having a good time.
I walked over to where my Mom was sitting, at the bar, and she said . " How was the show ? Do you want to meet a few of the wrestlers? " I was standing there , awestruck, and she taps the guy on the other side of her and says " Hey , George, I'd ;like you to meet my son"
It was George The Animal Steele. He proceeded to introduce me to ,The Moondogs, Tony Garerra, Junk Yard Dog , Greg the Hammer Valentine, and several others. Everyone was very friendly, and took the time to ask how I liked the show, and other such small talk. They all signed autographs for me.
Then later, after I was back sitting with Mom and Dad, Johhny Valiant came walking over , and asked i I wanted to play pool. He had been playing with Greg the Hammer Valentine, but him and Junk Yard Dog , decided to head for the next nights show.
It was an awesome evening for a young teen.
Now here I am in my 50's and I've recently started watching some of it again. Mostly documentaries, and greatest hits type stuff. Netflix has a deal with the WWE and they have a ton of stuff available , all the way back to Wrestlemania 1.
When our kids were little , they would watch it sometimes, but they never , really got in to it. We even took them to a live show, and they just never " caught the wrestling bug" I guess.
Mick Foley was my all time favorite, but had many more that I enjoyed rooting for over the years . Rowdy Roddy Piper , Jimmy "Superfly " Snuka, Andre, George the Animal Steele, Ric Flair, Ole and Arn Anderson. and many more.
Ahh the good ol days.

I actually shook hands with "Dick the Bruiser" about 45 years ago at a match at the local Armory. It's not what it used to be, I think it's about half fake now, LOL!
