Depending upon how high, I may have tried to throw a weighted object up over the line above the bird and try to pull it down. I would have figured something out. I dont think I would have left without trying personally.

Same! Those things are as vicious as they come. They'll pick the eyes out of newborn calf if given the chance. They kill deer fawns too, if they can find them.

Neighbor just lost a week old calf to the black headed ones

Is it legal to put it out of its misery? Can you at least do that? I don’t know if vultures are considered vermin or pests or what in your state

There's a good chance that buzzard is what killed and ate the fawn you posted earlier. The damage was at least in part done by birds of prey.

They are federally protected raptors same as Hawks, eagles and falcons and owls

Have you guys found black vultures to taste more like bald eagles or spotted owls? Are they distinguishable in flavor from California condors?
