For their small size they can put off some milk. I had 4 of them growing up u could put 3 calves each on daily til they got on feed then give em a new baby lol. Bought my 1st 2 vehicles w beef

Some of the best beef dad raised came off dairy cows. He was partial to Charlais over Milking Shorthorn, we had a Brown Swiss that put really good frames on her calves and crossed well on Angus/Black Baldy/Hereferd. Jersey lacked frame size but finished well. Holstein/Guernsey had to much bone.

BTW, many composite breeds have a shot of Milking Shorthorn in the background for the bag quality. I know Santa Getrudis and Beefmaster do.

JMO, but if I were shopping for a home milker that could milk and feed off a calf for the freezer I would look for an old fashioned roan Shorthorn.
